Tent Rentals???

Hello all,

I have had such good luck with these forums (found an awesome DJ) I thought I'd try it for my tent problem.

It seems that every year we grapple with the tent cost. Last year the tent cost was over one thousand dollars!

The fact that this comes off of the bottom line of our hard work at fundraising just hurts...soooooo here is my pitch:

How do you secure logistical items for your event?

I am curious if Relays have had success borrowing logistical items or getting them donated for your Relay. Who did you ask in the community and what did they donate or let you borrow? Thanks for the ideas!

Am I a "Survivor"?

I'm a little confused. The team captain on my wife's team suggested I register as a survivor and do the "survivor lap".

My understanding was a "survivor" was someone who had lived through cancer and was now cancer free. But my

diagnosis is terminal and I'm currently recieving chemo.

So... I've looked everywhere... What is the technical definition (for Relay purposes) of a "survivor"?

Wrist bands for youth and teens at Relay

Our Relay has had previous issues with unruly and disrespectful youth showing up at our Relay event that are not associated with a team. We are considering handing out wristbands to everyone under 18 at this year's Relay. We are looking for feedback from other Relay events that have used the wristbands. How did it work ? Did it produce the results you wanted ? Any positives or negatives ? Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks !

Need a way to communicate announcements to everyone at our event

Something that came up in the surveys from last year (our first year of RFL) was a way to communicate announcements during the day was needed.
We have various rock bands performing all day but we do not want to interrupt them between sets.
An electronic white board was suggested but I believe that would be an unnecesary cost.
Any suggestions?

Hi all!

I'm trying to locate anyone who has been involved in a Relay event that was held mostly during the daylight hours and not the traditional overnight. I seem to remember hearing of some but have no idea where.

At our Relay, we have never had one of those arches with balloons that Survivors walk through..Anyone know what I am talking about? I was just wondering if anyone had ideas about where to get one or how to make one...

HELP! Problems hosting Relay on Track.

Hey everyone, my name is Jacob and I am part of a College Relay at Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo, CA. We have had problems convincing the athletic department to let us use the all-weather outdoor track to host our Relay. They say that so much concentrated foot traffic will cause damage to the track. I was wondering if anyone else ran into similar problems and how you resolved them? Otherwise, we are confined to a very small grass lawn area which may not be sufficient for our growing Relay. Last year they had about 50 teams and it was very crowded, and this year we have about 75 teams. Please help! jgalvare@calpoly.edu or post a reply.

Jumbotron/giant screen

Our Relay is moving to a different location this year. We are most excited as the stadium we are moving to is much larger and has a large screen/Jumbotron that we will have access to. I'm looking for ideas on ways to utilize the Jumbotron to enhance our event. Of course, we've already discussed using it for our slide show, for showing the Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back video, etc. - but I would appreciate any other ideas you all have.

Turf Fields

Have any of held your Relay for Life event at a football stadium with turf. Our host location just put down new turf and wanted to see what guidelines others used in regards being able to use tents, stage, etc on the new turf.
