Need estimate on flags needed for Fight Back Ceremony

Cool Hello fellow relayers,

Getting ready for our relay in Plymouth MA which is June 20th and 21st and I am trying to get an estimate on how many flags are needed for the fight back ceremony. i have 35 teams and just about 600 participants - this is my first year as chair and could use a hand getting the estimate - do you give out one per person or one per captain??>
Thanks so much! Lisa

FIGHT BACK CEREMONY

Since relay season is now here, what are you doing for the "fight back" ceremony?  We're having our all chair meeting in a couple of weeks and I was looking for ideas.

Looking for participants!

Hello,

My name is Jessica Hodgkiss and I am a student @ RIT. I am on our ROTARACT committee and we are putting on Relay for Life this year. I am head of the survivorship board and we are looking for people who have battled cancer who would like to participate ion the event! We want to get people involved and have there stories heard! I hope it is not rude to put this up on this site, but I thought it would be good way to get the word out there and were excited for people to join us as we try to reach our goals for the event! I hope someone happens to read this and is interested. You can email me at jqh3726@rit.edu. Look forward to talking to you!

HELP! Need Mission Information For Tomorrow!

I just found out that I need to speak for 5 minutes tomorrow on the Mission.

It is for our Event Kickoff Rally and I'm not sure I even understand what is meant by Mission, let alone what to say about it to potential relayers/volunteers for FIVE WHOLE MINUTES!!

Don't get me wrong, I present in public as a profession, so I am not nervous, but rather concerned about giving not only an accurate but a meaningful, moving and/or inspiring message.

Please help. I'm truly desperate. (Will also post this in the Mission forum. I need all the help I can get!)

Thanks for any information you have...

Fight Back/Closing Ceremony

I need help!  I am planning and organizing the Fight Back/Closing Ceremony for our event.  Yes, the Fight Back & Closing Ceremonies are one and the same for our event.  The event is 24 hours and the ceremony will begin during the last hour, 8:00 am, of the relay.

Before the Fight Back Ceremony will begin, we will be presenting all the awards for the event.  Once this is completed, we will transition into the Fight Back Ceremony.

We plan on creating a lot of hype about the Fight Back Ceremony through word of mouth and in the press.  The goal is to get as many people as possible to attend.  I have a basic idea about what I want to do, but that's about it.  Here's what I have:

The Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back. flags enter with music playing.  Not sure what song should be playing, but strongly considering Right Now by Van Halen.  Once the flags reach their position, the music is lowered, but still playing.  The speaker, probably myself, then begins to speak.  I do not know the content yet and I am still reviewing the script.  The speech will end asking people to come forward and take their pledge to Fight Back.  If they wish, they can speak into a microphone and share their pledge.  They will remove a flag from the ground and sign the Fight Back banner.  The whole time, music will be playing.  Again, not sure of what songs or in what order.  As the final people take their pledges, the flags will begin moving to the track.  The crowd will be asked to meet behind the flags in preparation of the final lap.  When the crowd is gathered, We Are The World by U.S.A for Africa (written by Michael Jackson) will begin along with the final lap.  Upbeat music will continue to play until the last person completes their lap.  Songs will include, but not limited to Dancing in the Street by Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Walking on Sunshine by Katrina & the Waves, Power of Love by Huey Lewis & the News, etc.

Fight Back cards, flags & stickers

Does anyone know how I can get the Fight Back  pledge cards,  stickers and flags?  Our Relay is the last weekend of this month and I need to get this asap. Thanks all.

SONGS for Fight Back Ceremony

I'm looking for ideas for songs for the Fight Back Ceremony that are NOT included in the workbook or online at THIS website. Any suggestions? I could really use some creative ideas.

RFL

I spent the better part of this past weekend attending Relay For Life University. It was held in Spartanburg and was an amazing weekend. The theme for this year's Relay is Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back. I attended classes on a wide variety of subjects regarding the American Cancer Society & the Relay for Life. In one session, the speaker asked why we participated in RLF and when we first began even thinking about helping find a cure for cancer. I didn't have to think long because this thief has been a part of my life since I was 4 years old. It was then that this horrible disease claimed the life of my dad. My younger sister & I spent the next 12 years trying to grow up in very unfortunate circumstances. I hated cancer. I can remember my mom telling people that my dad had died from cancer. I was too young to know what it meant, but I knew that I hated it and for many years blamed the hardships that we endured on "Cancer". As I grew older this disease was explained to me as best as I could understand it.

Have You Taken the Pledge to Fight Back?

Have you taken the pledge to Fight Back?  If so, what have you pledged to do?  What have you done?  What would you like to do?  Have you checked out the Fight  Back pages on RelayForLife.org?  Have you found any links that you want to share?  Is there anything that you found that you'd like others to check out?
