RFL 10th Year for Santa Clarita Valley

2008 will be Santa Clarita Valley's 10th year participating in RFL. Our community event has grown so huge now both from the # of teams joining to the amount of money being donated. We are always looking for new ways to improve or expand on areas to make RFL one of the best in our community.

Our theme this year is "Around the World: Passport to Hope". A lot of our teams are looking forward to decorating their campsite. We are trying to have "passports" made so people can visit the world of hope at our event.

A lot of our committee members and team captains will travel to other Relays not only to help support their event but to find new ways or ideas to do things. I personally visited 7 Relays in 2007 and came away with some great ideas from both a Team Captain P.O.V. and from a Committee P.O.V. I plan to visit other Relays this year, starting with my alma mater CSUN (Cal State University Northridge) on April 12th. Go Matadors!

Hey y'all I just wanted to talk about our Relay In Blount County, I got wrangled I guess is how you state it to help with Relay, in 2005 which was the 10th year Celebration I believe. Which makes this coming year our 13th, Most would say 13 is UNLUCKY but not me I was always number 13 on the Team. Any who, we are starting off on the Right Foot, Our Date is set for April 28th, 2008 and Location has not changed, Our Kick-off is soon approaching and  we have set our Theme "Reason's To Celebrate". 14 years ... community support has dwindled

The Relay I'm involved with will be celebrating its 14th Relay this May.  In the last five years, the Relay has sort of decreased in popularity.  It's very sad because it used to be much, much bigger and more exciting.

Has anyone else battled with a long Relay that has seen a decrease of popularity?  How did you deal with it?  What was the outcome?  Has it changed?

Team Captains Meetings

We are fresh out of ideas on how to keep people interested in Team Captains meetings.  The captains that have been coming to our event for years have stopped coming.  Any ideas on how to get some good new energy into these meetings?

Best,

15th Anniversary

June 2007 we will host our 15th annual Relay for Life.  I have been involved for 14 out of the 15 years, in many roles, team captain, committee member, chairperson, co-chair etc.  I am honored again to be the co-chair of this event.  I had the awesome opportunity to attend Celebration on the Hill, and it changed my life.  I have always been involved, but now I have a much larger purpose than just my Relay.  I want to share my passion for RFL and to encourage others to become advocates for their community.  Please get involved with the advocacy and mission integration, they are why we relay.

12 Year Veteran

I have been involved with the Relay For Life going on my 12th year.  The first year we had 10 teams and raised $24,000.00 and now we have about 40 teams and raise over $100,000.00. I started with Relay as a team member, I have been a team captain for the past 11 years and a member of the committee for the past 7 years!   I enjoy Relay!  I take my granddaugher and now she loves Relay too.
