Relay Theme & Campsite Decoration

The theme for our event this year is "Atwater Goes to the Movies."  My team and I have been talking about all the different possibilities.  Here's one idea we are leaning towards right now.

Instead of choosing a movie to set the theme for our campsite we are thinking of creating a "Snack Bar."  The theater always has a snack bar.

Here's where it gets interesting.  Our mission delivery activity is going to be based on nutrition.  We help people create their own trail mix while talking and educating on the necessity of healthy eating.  The problem!  The snack bar at any theater is not very healthy.  At the snack bar we would sell items like popcorn, candy, soda, energy drinks, etc.  Since water will be of abundance at the event, we will not be selling any of it.  We are also considering selling virgin drinks, such as margaritas, dacquaris, etc.  How can I tie all this together without sending a mixed message?

Americana Theme Decorations Ideas

Any ideas for creating our campsite in the Americana theme?

TIA

campsite what do you think

The overall theme for our relay is sporting for a cure. My team is made up of people who work at the local OUTBACK. So we were going to do Aussie sports. We have outback style hats to wear. We will have boomerangs, and soccer, basketball, baseball items. We were thinking that since the adventure type races (ie. eco-challenge) are big "DOWN UNDER"; that we would have compasses pointing you in a direction to prevent cancer for instance it might say "quit smoking".   any other ideas would be apprecatied.

Children's activity ideas needed

Help!  Our Relay needs some ideas for elementary school-aged kids.

We're planning a Family Fun Fest complete with mascots from area businesses and sports teams and a local TV meteorologist is going to perform.  An elementary school is planning some arts and crafts activities, but I'm looking for more activities so I can suggest some ideas to our teams when I invite them to do something.

Any ideas?

Family Fun Fest help!

Our Relay is planning a Family Fun Fest type thing.  Before I ask some questions for feedback, here's the scoop:

  • The event is scheduled for about 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the first day of our event
  • A very popular local meteorologist who has a ventriloquist doll is going to perform (probably at 3:30 for an hour)
  • We've invited several area mascots and are trying to confirm their attendance (our "Mascot Mania" is scheduled for 1 p.m. for an hour or so)
  • We'll have teams doing arts and crafts for children, we'll have bake sales going on
  • Our region's women's football team has generously agreed to appear for a time at the event
  • Right before the popular TV meteorologist performs we're going to do a "Lap of Champions" where we'll showcase each of the youth-oriented teams.  They can make banners, wear t-shirts, etc.

Here are some questions that I'm hoping to get feedback on:

  1. Does the name "Family FunFest" sound fun?  Or is it really lame?  I'm torn.
  2. What are some easy games to invite teams to create for the event for kids and families to do?  An elementary school is going to let kids to sand art.  There's a few bake sales going on, too.
  3. Our Relay is near Pittsburgh.  Does anyone know of other mascots in the area...or any mascots in general that may appear?  (I've invited mascots from the Pittsburgh Pirates, Kennywood Park, Eat 'n Park Smiley Cookie, some radio stations, a minor league baseball team nearby.  I'm inviting the two HS mascots and one college mascot within our community.)
  4. Any idea on how I can get in touch with my local Radio Disney station?  Their Web site doesn't offer local contact info, but I know they make appearances.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated, too!
