I've accepted the role as Luminaria Chair. At our location, we don't have access to bleachers. I was wondering if anyone would have alternative ideas/suggestions to display HOPE- CURE during the luminaria ceremony?

Has anyone ever done a Survivor & Caregiver lap during the luminary service?  We are thinking about doing it & giving the survivors a white glow necklace & the caregivers a yellow glow necklace to wear during the lap.  Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions?

I have a question regarding the sale of luminaria's and having the sale credited to a particular team or person participating in the relay. Ultimately the money is all going to the same great cause, ACS but in the RFL event I'm participating in the money earned/collected from luminaria sales isn't credited toward the individual who sold them or referred a purchaser to the RFL site to purchase online. However, I have seen other RFL events online who have the ability of having luminaria sales credited to a team/person. Why is this not an option at my RFL event?  Anyone know?  Thanks in advance.

Has anyone tried to edit their event website to add another option for Luminaria?  We use 3 categories, (In honor of survivors, in memory of those lost and in support of those currently fighting).  The website only has In honor and in memory. 

I've emailed our Staff Partner and she's out for a few days.  We have launched a media blitz for our team captain meetings and hope to see some traffic on our website but we don't want people to be disappointed when they can't buy luminaria "In Support" of someone.

If anyone knows how to do this, please share.

Our Relay is contemplating using donated food cans for Luminaria bag weights this year.   Has any other Relay used this before?  The idea is to hold canned food drives in the months leading up to Relay, use the cans at Relay and then donate to local food bank when done.   Concern is with the wide variety of can sizes and if candles are not put into small cups, cleaning the wax off of the cans at end of Relay.

Anyone have any experience along these lines?

I have a problem. I have to have a Luminaria Ceremony with the ligth on.. We are luck this year that IKEA is have a Relay.  We are having our KICK OFF inside the resturant of IKEA. Because safty reasons (as pr IKEA) we can not turn off the light nor lower them.  What can I do to make the luminaria as important and emotional as it is suppose to be with the light on. Please I am open to all ideas.  Thank you.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to incorporate the Story of 1000 Cranes into the Luminaria/remembrance program?  I was looking for something a little more upbeat than The Empty Table and The Darken Room, but don't want to go totally of course. We have many schools and young people that participate in our meetings and Relay event and I thought they might embrace the story.  Any thoughts?

Luminaria Add-On - offer a flower for the "garden" as extra incentive to purchase a Luminaria
All teams ask for a donation of  $10.00. It cost the teams $1.00 to make them.   For $10 you got a luminaria on the track and a flower for the garden. They then gave the flowers back to the people to take home. Cabell, Wayne and Mason counties in West Virginia are doing this. Terri Francis thought it would enhance luminaria sales...it did and it looks great!

So, it's my second year as Luminaria chair (Sob!) and I was wondering if the song, "The Circle of Life" would be too... well, not really up-beat, but maybe cliche? The phrase is used a lot and I know a few people (Who aren't coming to Relay) who find it a tad bit insulting. Just need some opinions on this, please!

This is my first year participating in A Relay For Life, and first of all, I can't even begin to express how great it has been being a part of this. Well, I don't know wheter it was over-enthusiasm that led me to sign up to be a team captain as well as the Luminaria committee chair, but anyway, that's the position I'm in right now. Everything with my team has been running smoothly, but I'm struggling with the Luminaria ceremony!
