story of 1000 cranes

Does anyone have any ideas of how to incorporate the Story of 1000 Cranes into the Luminaria/remembrance program?  I was looking for something a little more upbeat than The Empty Table and The Darken Room, but don't want to go totally of course. We have many schools and young people that participate in our meetings and Relay event and I thought they might embrace the story.  Any thoughts?

Flowers For Memory Garden-Help!

Sherman Co Kansas is planning on doing this where do we fine the flowers?  Please help!

Luminaria Add-On - offer a flower for the "garden" as extra incentive to purchase a Luminaria
All teams ask for a donation of  $10.00. It cost the teams $1.00 to make them.   For $10 you got a luminaria on the track and a flower for the garden. They then gave the flowers back to the people to take home. Cabell, Wayne and Mason counties in West Virginia are doing this. Terri Francis thought it would enhance luminaria sales...it did and it looks great!

Opinions about a song, please?

So, it's my second year as Luminaria chair (Sob!) and I was wondering if the song, "The Circle of Life" would be too... well, not really up-beat, but maybe cliche? The phrase is used a lot and I know a few people (Who aren't coming to Relay) who find it a tad bit insulting. Just need some opinions on this, please!

Need some help planning my luminaria ceremony!!

 Hello everyone,

This is my first year participating in A Relay For Life, and first of all, I can't even begin to express how great it has been being a part of this. Well, I don't know wheter it was over-enthusiasm that led me to sign up to be a team captain as well as the Luminaria committee chair, but anyway, that's the position I'm in right now. Everything with my team has been running smoothly, but I'm struggling with the Luminaria ceremony!

Bags

Hey guys, my friend is chair of our county luminaria and she has recruited me to help out. I have people wanting to purchase the luminaria bags so they can bring them home and decorate them and then turn them in at the event to be lit up. where can I buy the bags or get them??? I have contacted my local ACS office, but was wondering where to get them. SOme of my people live out of state but what to buy have me send them the blank and then they send them back to me to put up. How can I get my hands on some bags????

Luminaria

The Relay for Life of Central Phoenix has a goal of 500 Luminaria for our event this Saturday, and we are way behind. This is our first year at a high school with a full size track, and we need it lit up to honor and remember our loved ones.

I assume most people here are working hard to support your own Relays, so my expectations are realistic. However, I know Relayers to be the most generous community of people on the planet, so I am asking for your support. If you would be so generous as to honor someone with a luminaria at our Relay, it would be an honor for us to do so.

For $10, you can dedicate your luminaria online at http://www.rflcentralphoenix.com.

Thank you,

Ted Cook

Slideshow?

Hey, there. Well, I'm invlolved with the Relay For Life in Newark, Ca, and I'm the Luminaria Chair for the second year in a row now. I've seen a lot of people putting on slideshows of pictures from throughout the day. To me, that just seems more like an idea for the Fight Back ceremony, seeing as we remember the fun we had all day and all the walking we did.

Is it appropriate to do this at the Luminaria ceremony? I guess we could put ing pictures of people looking semi-solemn, not happy and peppy. I don't know... Please help?

Battery-operated tealights

Does anyone know where we can get a good deal on battery-operated tealights.  As we do not have bleachers at our event, we use the battery operated tea-lights to spell out HOPE by putting them in plastic cups and sticking them in the fence around the baseball field.  It has worked out very well.  Visit our website at www.nlvrelay.com and click on "Photos" to view.  If anyone has any "inside" tips on where we can obtain battery-operated tealights at a decent price, please let me know!

Thanks...

Luminaria/Survivor Lap Forms

I had seen a suggestion somewhere that was saying to put luminaria/survivor lap forms on pizza boxes, etc...is there a form already made for this. I was working on creating my own but it kept turning out too long...wanting something short and catchy. Any suggestions on what info needs to be on form or where I can find a form for this?

If anyone has ideas or advice that may be beneficial I would love to share some proven ideas ! My e mail is mahummer2000@yahoo.com. Thanks Mike
