Luminaria ideas for Christmas ?

I am a new Luminaria committee chair and was wondering if anyone had ideas that have worked in promoting Luminaria during the Christmas holidays. Was thinking that instead of spending money on gifts or other items, maybe promote the idea of a luminaria to honor or remember someone special. Has anyone found a way to make luminaria a part of the busy holiday season ?  Thanks for any comments.

Tribute or Dedication Pages in event program or booklet

Does anyone have any samples of anything you might have done in an event program or booklet having a page in Honor or in memory of someone.

We have a corporate team doing a cookbook fundraiser and they want to include in their cookbook pages that can be dedicated in honor or in memory of people who have battle battled cancer.  I was wondering if anyone has a sample of something like this they you may have done in a RFL event program or in a similar type of fundraiser.

Thank you in advance for any responses..

Kay

Luminaria bags with cut-outs?

A lot of the more recent luminaria pictures I have seen have bags with stars and or moons cut outof them, what is the trick to that?! They look too professional to be done by hand but I have never seen a puncher do holes that big!

If anyones knows the secret please share!

Thanks!

Hi Lisa,

I am new to Relay for Life.  You may have already found a song, but the one that kept me going as my mom's caregiver is "FLY" by Jars of clay.  Faith, Hope, and Love, Ronni Sue

Bagpiper needed!

Hello. I'm with the Relay For Life of Newark, Ca and I could use some help. Last year I went to the Relay in Burlingame and was very touched by the bagpiper playing. Does anyone have contact info for some bagpipers who will play for little or no cost? The lowest price I've gotten was $250. Please help. Thanks!

Silent Lap/ Luminaria Ceremony

Last year we had a bagpiper walk around the track as our silent lap for the begining of the Luminaria Ceremony, this year we're having a hard time finding one.  Just wondering what others do for there silent lap begining Luminaria Ceremony.

anyone used "tealight" candles before?

We have always used votives - (placed directly in bag with sand) for our luminary bags.  We have had 1000 tealight candles donated to the event this year -- our concern is - length of burning time.  We were told the tealights will burn 6 hours --  I have never had a tealight burn for 6 hours!  (more like 2 hours max).  Has anyone had experience with the tealight candles?   And do you place them directly into the sand---  or do you use the "plastic cups" in the sand.  The candle rep thought that placing them in the cups would make them "hotter' and therefore burn faster?

any experiences you have had are greatly appreciated  (good or bad) -- I just need to know what to expect!
