Hi All!

I am new to the entertainmet chair.  I think I have a difficult task ahead of me as our relay runs from 6 PM on Friday to Noon on Saturday.  By the time we are done with ceremonies and luminaries, it is 11 PM and that is when I get to start filling in for my bands and DJ's, etc...  I need advice on how I can approach the situation and book bands in middle of the night.  Many think coming out at 2 AM is unacceptable.  My goal as the new chair is to bring in entertainment and keep people there and ready to go for Sat. morning and still provide great entertainment right up to the end.  I have talked to a couple of people that say they will only book during the Friday time slots as Sat. is dead and with no audience, they won't play... what do I do?  I can't make it better if I can't book the help and I have nothing to do with the time frames given.  PLEASE HELP!!!!

Thanks,

Gina

Ideas for music

How lucky you are to be able to have bands all night long. Our relay is in the middle of town so we have a noise limit. Our relay is fairly quiet most of the night. Theme laps seem to keep people on the track as well as participation points for having our decorated team baton on the track for every 1 hour lap period.

You may be able to get more bands/music if you widen your net. Contact church choirs and worship bands about coming out late to play some fun secular and inspirational songs or just a plain old sing-a-long from about 11- midnight. Then you can book a couple of bands for Saturday morning when they are more willing to come out for the gig. You may even be able to get a high school or college music program to come out and perform on Saturday. You can play music over the PA system over night. Ask bands who can't do the late time slot to donate a CD of songs for you to play. Just announce the band and turn on the album. Include a shout out in the lap schedule. You can change it up over the next 6 hours. Play some country, then maybe a kids album at 3 am to wake everybody up (include the hokey pokey), then some pop rock, etc., etc. Finish up with revelie, marching songs, and collage fight songs at 5 or 6 am to wake everybody up.
Play a game of complete the lyric have everyone sing a long with the song then turn the volume off forcing them to continue the line with out the music. You can play this game to fill in lulls through out the schedule or an entire lap overnight.

I hope that these ideas will help you make your relay memorable.
