silent auction
We annually run a silent auction at work. We ask for donated baskets already filled. We usually collect around 40 baskets and easily raise $2500.

We are using

oriental trading company has a breast cancer sports bag full of cool stuff, and you get three for $15.

Don't know how much you want

Don't know how much you want to spend on "filling" each basket, but for around $25-$50 here are a few of the ones we have found to be popular:

 - Kid's (or adult) Camping:  Small tent and/or sleeping bag, flashlight, s'more fixins. bug spray, lantern, etc...

 - Car Wash Bucket - Bucket, sponge, brushes, rags, various cleaning products, paper towels, air freshner...

  - Movies:  A current/popular dvd, popcorn with paper or plastic "buckets", $1 boxes of candy, gift card to local rental store (Blockbuster, etc.), small bottled soda or drinks...

 - Beach:  Fill large bucket with sand toys, suntan lotion, glasses, beach towel, small umbrella...

- Rainy Day:  Fill a basket with "Bored" games, puzzles, sodoku, pens/pencils, crayons, cards, ...

 - Gardening:  gloves, seed packets, starter plants, shovel, trowel, kneeling pad, watering can, fertilizer, decorative pot(s), ...

 - Kid's Discovery:  Last year Target had some great items for children for outdoor discovery, like bug collection, butterfly nets, etc.

 - Crafting:  Pick a hobby and fill a basket with items.  Knitting or crochet needles, yarn, magazine or instruction booklet, tote, tools, ...

 - Coffee or Tea:  Buy a couple decorative mugs and fill basket with variety of coffee or teas and their fixings.

We have also gotten our local elementary school to help out.  We ask children in each grade-level to bring in items to fill a themed basket.  First grade might do the gardening basket, second grade will do crafts, etc.  Then, everything in the basket is free.  All you have to do is fill them.

Good luck and have fun!
