Mission Delivery Ideas

Here are a few ideas - several of them came from cancer control staff in the South Atlantic Division:

* Cancer Awareness Scavenger Hunt - The objective of the game is for each team to collect as many of the items on the list as possible within one hour. For each item obtained, a team member should be able to explain or describe its significance as it pertains to the American Cancer Society. Some items may be collected from ACS volunteers and/or staff

* Mission Delivery "Who Wants to Be a Millionare" - ask questions about cancer related issues ranging from simple (level 1) to difficult (level 5), and have whoever answers 5 questions of all 5 levels win. The questions list is at the link below.

* Road to Recovery Rally - Have people make "racers" out of cardboard boxes - decorate them as racing cars - and race around the track! A great activity for kids! There are several variations, including requiring that they hold an egg on a spoon as they go around the track. Have a judges panel award prizes for the best car (decorations) as well as the fastest car that gets to the end without dropping the egg!

You can find a file with all these ideas, the questions to ask for the games, and more at:

Cancer Education Biathalon

The real biathalon is a combination of cross country skiing and shooting with misses in the shooting punishable by extra cross country skiing. Well, why not a biathalong using running and questions?  Teams compete with each runner having to run a certain distance and then answer a cancer education question. If they get it wrong then they have to perform a penalty of some sort (jumping jacks, pushups, squats, etc - your choice).  When they complete the punishment then they continue on and handoff to the next team member.

This would get teams really working as a team and getting to know other teams better through the competition.  Questions could be designed for young and old alike so no one has to be left out.  It gets the information out and everyone has fun and gets their exercise.  It's a win win activity.

Colon cancer free towns

I heard about this idea at the national rally and it is awesome. We hope to implement it in my Relay. What a great way to involve doctors offices, get publicity - I heard one Relay actually had doctors offices scheduling exams at the Relay!!

The idea is catchy with all sorts of angles. NO ONE should ever get colon cancer - how many cancers can you say THAT about? And you will never forgive yourself if you do. We have lots of youth teams and will try an incentive program where they get rewards for getting those who should have an exam, to have one. But include everyone in that too.

Would love to hear other ways to use this idea.
