Relay For Life® is everywhere! If you don't believe it, just ask the legions of viewers who recently tuned in to their daily dose of The Price Is Right game show and saw Illinois Division volunteer and Relay advocate David Watts wearing his feelings on his sleeve … well, actually on the front of his shirt! Watts, backed by several supporters also donning their Relay T-shirts, was a contestant on the national television program hosted by Drew Carey.  We apologize that we cannot show the footage on RelayForLife.org, due to copyright issues...but here's what happened:

Watts, from Wood River, Illinois, was the 2008 and 2009 event chair of the Relay For Life of Riverbend, which includes communities in and around Alton, Illinois, just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis. He has been an avid Relayer for 7 years, having taken up the cause after losing both parents to cancer when he was only 14 years old.

A Relay team captain and committee chair prior to assuming oversight of his local event, Watts and a few colleagues were attending a professional meeting on the West Coast this past summer when they decided to take in a Hollywood taping of The Price Is Right. After submitting personal information, which included news of their Relay event’s success, Watts said that he and his friends waited in line for 5 hours for the chance to be game show contestants. He said he thinks the opportunity to tell line ushers all about Relay "made me stand out as a contestant."

The show's contestant selectors agreed and gave Watts a chance to "come on down!" Once on stage after winning a $1,300 electric guitar, his T-shirt caught Carey's eye. Later, during the "Showcase Showdown" segment, Watts had an opportunity to share that his community's Relay had raised $106,000 for the American Cancer Society. He also lived up to a promise he'd made to his Society staff partner, Illinois Division Income Development Representative Mandie Sidener, to give her an on-air "shout out."
