My relay team is at work; and we were just informed that our Work picnic is the same day as our relay and that has really left some hard feelings for those involved with the realy. Yes our relay is from 12 noon Fri to 12 noon Sat but who wants to be up for over 24 hours and go to the picnic which is at an amusement park for a nother 12 hours or so...We want to do they relay, at least raise money for it but probably can't be at the relay itself. Someone mentioned that we have a mini relay here at work but I don't know how well that would go over. See we have over 600 employees but I would say maybe only 10 out of those 600 really attends the relay itself. We have no problem raising money with lunches, bake sales, etc here at work but it's getting other employees involved in the actual event that is the problem. Then I was thinking about being something like a "ghost" team but what message is that sending that we aren't actually there.
We are very upset about this and stewing mad...what can we do???

Hi: I love your dedication!!!! But the important part is that you are participating by forming a team and raising money for the event. We have several 'ghost' teams and we recognize them just as much as teams that can actually attend the event.
Maybe you could ask people who haven't attended the Relay in the past to be the 'stand ins' for your team this year. Or maybe you can get a local school or church who isn't involved to walk and represent your team. Who knows, you may end up with future active team members!
In any event, ACS will just be grateful that you are participating in whatever capacity you can, they won't focus on what you can't do.
As a last thought, is there any chance that at the amusement park you can do a 'special lap' as a group to represent the laps you couldn't do at the event?
No matter what, just be proud of what you are able to do!!!
