I relay for loved ones who have lost their battle with cancer, and for those who have survived and are fighting it! About 4 years ago, I went to my first relay...like the above post, I too had an aunt who was fighting breast cancer. Not only did she fight that, but she found out she was also battling it in her lungs. I went to the first relay, because of her, and when I saw her walking in the survivor lap, I was so proud, so honored, and so blessed to be related to her. She passed away in 2003, and I've been relaying ever since. The year she died, my dad was diagnosed with skin cancer. I relay for him as well. My grandma was also battling cancer. In 2001 she had a third of her colon removed. In 2005, the cancer came back. I also relay for my grandfather, who died of bone cancer in 1994.
Since I have been involved, last year I was a captain of a team. Due to the hard work and awesome numbers our team put up, I was invited to join the committee for our county in Southern Illinois. I am so proud to serve, and look forward to many many relays in the future!
Relay is so important. Together we can make a difference!!!
