This past Wednesday I lost a dear friend a great Relayer - Rose Alagna. Rose was the Event Chair for the Relay For Life of Berwyn/Cicero in Illinois. Rose beat her cancer, but lost her life during surgery for other health issues. Rose was a two time survivor who was so proud to be a survivor that she lived her life to the fullest, because she understood how lucky she was. This past May the event went over the $1,000,000 mark and she was looking forward to getting the banner for her event at the upcoming Illinois Leadership Summit. (they missed last year by a few thousand dollars) Rose was a very quiet person who was unsure whether or not she should become the chair and after many of us told her she would be great at it she did it three years ago and the event never looked back. Her committee and event did an incredible job every year and it will be hard to replace her. Rose would always willingly talk to groups, fellow Relayers and survivors whenever she was asked because she knew how important it was to get the word out about ACS and Relay. Cherish your friends and please say an extra prayer for Rose and her family, I know she's in heaven and will be starting a Relay there soon.
