help!!!.Im new at being a silent auction chair. Im just confused as to what are the guidelines if any for this fundraiser, does anyone have a list or a description on how to hold a silent auction at Relay te day of the event.
I don't have a problem with donations or baskets, I just need another S.A. Chair's best practices.
Thanks

SILENT AUCTION DO'S AND DONT'S:
Key Things to do:
o Get Some Great Items Donated! Great ways to get items:
Get your teams involved - Ask each team to donate at least one item to the auction
Hold a Scouring The Town Saturday – Get volunteers together on a Saturday morning, feed them bagels, and then split up and scour the town… Ask for teams, donations, and silent auction items!
Call local businesses
Types of items to consider getting:
• Local sports team memorabilia
• Donations from a local branch of a national store - often, they will automatically donate a $25 gift certificate
• Hotel/B&B gift certificates... contact a B&B or national hotel chain for a donation
• Restaurant gift certificates
• Product donations from local businesses - often more affordable for them than cash.
• Dancing, yoga, pilates, etc. lessons - a great way for a studio to recruit people!
o Put together Silent Auction Rules and Guidelines - (see below) to make it clear to people how the auction works. Use the sheet in the link below as a template to develop instructions for your silent auction – thanks to Chris Maddox and Chris Eary for developing these!
o Put together Bid Sheets for Each Item - (see below) for the items that you get donated:
o Put Together A ‘Summary of Items For Silent Auction’ for your event program. - See below.
o Get a Good Spot For Your Auction - Get some tent/canopy covered tables so in case it sprinkles, your items and bid sheets do not get wet.
o Get Organized At The End – Be organized at the end of the Auction:
collect the sheets promptly when the auction ends
Quickly review them for any issues
Have the MC announce the winners when it is all done, and have folks come up and collect their prizes and pay their donation if they are present. This will reduce having to track people down later.
