So, it's my second year as Luminaria chair (Sob!) and I was wondering if the song, "The Circle of Life" would be too... well, not really up-beat, but maybe cliche? The phrase is used a lot and I know a few people (Who aren't coming to Relay) who find it a tad bit insulting. Just need some opinions on this, please!

I don't know if insulting is

I don't know if insulting is the right word, but it would leave me with an uncomfortable feeling.  Having lost my dad to cancer, even knowing that death is a part of "the circle of life," the luminaria ceremony isn't the time that I want to be reminded of that.  For me it's a time to mourn and to remember... and also to support those still fighting the fight.  It's just my own 2 cents, but I wouldn't use it.

I'm trying to think of other songs that we've played in the past... "I will remember you" is one that pops into my head. I know there are a ton of others but I'm drawing a blank.

Click on the "song suggestion" link on www.relayforlife.org for some ideas. :)

That's what I thought, too.

That's what I thought, too. I'm using a script where at one point, when we're lighting the "O" in HOPE, it says, "And the O represents a circle," and then stuff about circle=luminaria around the track=circle of friends/family=Circle of Life. I think I might change that part and put in something about heroes, so I can play "Hero" by Mariah Carey.
