"Cutest Baby Contest" Fundraising Idea
Hello, everyone! My team was thinking of ideas when we came up with a Cutest Baby Contest. IF we get permission to do such a fundraiser, we would plan on having people sign up beforehand, have ballot boxes with each baby's picture on it and people vote with donations, and at the end of the night whichever baby with the most donations would be crowned either "Baby Relay" or "Birthday Baby". The purpose of this post is to see if anyone out there had ideas for the name of the contest, or any other ideas associated with this fundraiser idea. Please let us know, all thoughts are taken into consideration. :-)

Cutest Baby
My team has done a similar fundraiser. We actually did a Cutest Biker Baby fundraiser with our local Harley-Davidson dealership and it has been very successful We've done it for three years and have raised over $14,000 total. We have a $10 registration fee, and we really encourage the parents of the children to solicit donations from family, friends, neighbors, etc. I think that is what has made ours so successful - we don't rely on the general public to donate. However, if you plan to do it at Relay it would probably be very successful with Relayers donating as long as it is well publicized at the event. We also have 3 age categories, baby, toddler, and preschool. Each child receives a goody bay and certificate for participating and prizes are awarded in each age category as well as one overall winner. We try to get everything donated for the goody bags and prizes and we reuse the ballot boxes every year. People love to show off their babies, and it's a lot of fun! Voting runs for about 3-4 weeks usually and then we have a big event presentation at the Harley-Davidson dealership, where we bring all the kids on stage present them with their certificates and goodie bags and announce the winners. I think it's a great idea! Maybe charge a $5 or $10 entrance fee for those who want to submit a baby photo for the contest. That'll get you a good start! You'll need to have something to give the winner... maybe get a sign shop to donate a small trophy or a nice framed certificate? I think naming them "Little Miss Relay" or "Little Mr. Relay" would be really cute too.
The only thing I can think of is intead of having the ballot boxes be used to collect the money, have a person selling vote tickets (get a roll of tickets from your local party supply or even office depot) and charge $0.50 or $1.00 per vote ticket (or even 5 votes for $1 - that part of it doesn't really matter)... then have the voters put the tickets in the ballot boxes. That keeps all of your money in one safe location. We have a big Relay and if we have boxes and boxes that each contained cash, some of them would surely 'grow legs' and walk away.
