I have an idea that I want your opinion on. We still read the luminaria names at our relay. I wanted to ask all of our team members to submit a picture of a lost loved one or someone who is a survivor and make a slideshow to the Mamasitas "Thats Why We Walk" Do you think this would be too much. Would you personally participate in something like this for your own Relay. The song is about 4 minutes long. Please give me your thoughts.
Here is a link to youtube for one I made for my parents with the same song

...sorry...at some point after posting that, I changed permissions so that only my Viddler "friends" could see it, due to the fact that it has names of survivors in it.
With regard to the confidentiality issue mentioned below, we've never had a problem at Relay because we only post pictures that are sent to us by family/friends of those either honoring or remembering their loved ones. If they are not confortable with it, people don't send pictures in. So it's never been an issue.
Thanks!

I am with Relay for Life-Poway, in San Diego County, CA. We have done the slideshow for 2 years and it has been a wonderful addition. We have a very large screen that we run the slideshow on after the Luminaria ceremony while everyone is walking around the track.
We collect pictures before the event, and take pictures during the event to add to it. It does require having someone there that can take digital pictures and download them into the slideshow.
Good Luck!
I'm afraid ours has gotten to 20 minutes long. But people are always eager to see it and it just keeps getter longer each year. After the pictures, we have the names of all those represented with Luminaria scroll and people are invited to stay and watch or walk the track in silence.

I really like Bobby's idea of asking for a donation per picture. Wish we would have started with that. Great fundraiser!

That's a fantastic idea. We plan on doing a slideshow during the Luminaria, and putting it to music after the ceremony ends.
What we're doing is putting a note on the luminaria form allowing people to submit photos for an additional charge. (Like $5 or so. We charge $10 for luminaria.)
