We are fresh out of ideas on how to keep people interested in Team Captains meetings.  The captains that have been coming to our event for years have stopped coming.  Any ideas on how to get some good new energy into these meetings?

Best,

Ideas to keep them coming to team captain meetings

Here are a few more ideas:

∑ Separate mtgs for new & old tc's to regional - this keeps the meetings fresh for older team captains who don't want to sit through the basics but still need to
learn some critical stuff and learn the changes.
∑ Try to use a team recruitment incentive. Example: Award existing team captain movie passes for their family if they bring in one new team with at least 8 members and raise no less than $100.
∑ Team Spirit Points – Have a team spirit contest with a certain # of points for different things –
ß campsite contest
ß team spirit at event
ß team fundraisers
ß attending team captain meetings
ß mission delivery
Give an award to the best team spirit team
∑ Try to use a team recruitment incentive. Example: Award existing team captain movie passes for their family if they bring in one new team with at least 8 members and raise no less than $100.
∑ Team Spirit Bingo – Put together a Bingo Card with Team Spirit activities… When a team gets bingo they get to drop the card in a bucket at the event to win a big team prize (dinner out, etc.). Here is an example of a card:

Attend Team Captain’s #1 Campsite Contest for Other Teams

Attend Team Captain’s Meeting #2 Mission delivery

Attend Team Captains meeting #3 Decorate Your Campsite

Have a decorated baton you pass when you are on track

∑ Use Great Team Captains to talk to your team captains – get your best team captains involved to talk to other team captains about what they did that worked.
∑ Have Inspiring activities - read a great poem about cancer (I can send you a couple), have an icebreaker where your team captains share how they got involved, or have a luminaria ceremony in a team captain's meeting to get them motivated.

Hi there-    One of the

Hi there-

One of the things we've done in the past, is split the room in half after annoucments and such.  Sort of a New TC/Vet TC.  This gives the "rookies" a chance to ask questions, and go further into detail with sometthings, and it gives the vets a chance to talk about things that they may have struggled with, things that did work, didnt work etc.  Hope that helps!!

TC Meetings?

Good question... I have found similar results with my RFL, and have experimented with a couple of different tests. The ones that seemed to work the best are below.

1. Give out tokens to those team captains that show (obviously stating this in the kick off) to TC meetings, teams that have raised a certain amount by a certain date, teams that have their members registered by a specific date, etc., which they then can turn in at the night of the event for a team gift bag. At our event we have the teams bartar for the different prizes using the tokens as money, one raising the other by a couple and vice versa until a team out bartars the other for the gift bag. The gift bags are enough for each member of the team to receive a little something (up to 10), and we usually have at least three sets of gift bags so that three teams can go home with something. This adds a little freindly competition amongst teams as well as making it fun in the wee hours of the morning.

2. Food, music, and special guest speakers seem to attract alot of attention at my meetings. Have someone predominant in the city, business area, neighborhood, relay, etc. come tell a little something during your meeting. Whether it be telling their RFL story, something pertaining to what you're covering in the meeting, or just a motivational speaker.

3. The last one that I have found to work is to schedule out your team captain meetings covering something different in each meeting. Schedule backwards from your Relay date and what is more important at that time. The first could how to recruit, register members and use the online features. Second, how to fund raise. Third, motivation and leadership. Fourth, onsite fund raisers, themes, decorations, etc. Fifth, location of campsites, relay schedule, and any last question or concerns. This seems to keep the TCs interested in finding new info on each subject.

I hope that helps some...
