Hello, I am on the committee of my Relay. We had talked about using a projector and screen during the survivor lap to show pics of survivors and during the Luminaria ceremony to show pictures of some of the people on the luminarias. Has anyone done this? What did you you for a screen? I fanyone has done this or has any ideas - let me know. Thanks and keep on Relay-ing!
We did this for our 2008 Relay. We were going to have a "Movie Under the Stars" anyway in our hopes that we could get more people to stay later. We took donations for the entries into the slide show. We had a default "In Memory of" and "In Honor of" slide or you could supply your own picture and wording. You could also create your own PowerPoint slide to include. It was a hugh success!
The laptop with the slide show was connected to the movie projector and it projected onto the large movie screen. My daughter's boyfriend took pictures of the slides that I had done and the pictures turned out great too so it was a good keeper for scrapbooking.
Last year we used a laptop, projector, and a 5' portable projector display screen. (The white side of a piece of drywall will work as well if you do not have access to a display screen) Simply hook the laptop to the projector with a S-Video cable. You will have to switch the setting on the laptop so check the owners manual if you are unsure on how to do it. We allowed people to bring in pictures and we would scan them or they could e-mail them as well. We used those pictures in conjunction with PowerPoint to create a slideshow. We had, "In Memory Of" and "In Honor Of". We played a variety of inspirational and uplifting music throughout the show. It was a HUGE hit!!! If you need further detail feel free to contact me.
Luminaria Scrolling Names
Here is one way to go about it:
OpenOffice.org's Impress offers the ability to scroll names and so far it seems to allow an unlimited number. OpenOffice.org (from www.openoffice.org) is free and is the open source alternative to Microsoft Office. You can enter the names in Excel, sort them, copy them and then paste them into a text box in Impress. From there you can:
Select your Text Box of names
Format – Paragraph 1 ½ lines
Format – Text – Text – Scroll Through and .01” (this sets the speed of the scroll).
So much easier than what we've tried to deal with before. I've written up some instructions, if you'd like a copy.
Good Luck,
Juli
