I had two donations to put on line this morning.  I entered the donor first name, Relay, donor last name, Donation. The first time the system tried to refresh it took so long it timed out, and I had to start over again (and I am on high speed internet!) The second time I was successful in entering the donation.  On the second donation I tried Relay For Life first name, and Donation last name, and that also timed out. 

 

Is there a better way to enter single donations?

Offline donations

You don't specify if you were entering via the front end or EMC, but the answer to your question is, No, there's no other way of entering onesie / twosie donation transactions.

System time out was likely not a factor of your Internet connection as it was slow response time by either your ISP's Web servers or Convio's database servers. In either case, it should be a temporary situation.

Offline Donations

I have been experiencing the same problem - it is terribly slow.  It takes about 3-4 minutes per transaction I'm trying to enter.  I hope it does get better soon, although we've had our kick-off so I hope to use the batch system from now on.

Offline Donations

I'm having the same problem.  I enter "Offline" in the space for first name and "Donation" in the space for last name.  A huge long list of  various "Offline Donation" selections finally comes up.  I think it takes so long because the software is searching for the words and producing this long list.  Is there a way you can modify the words you are typing in....just a tiny bit...so that they will sort similarly on the reports that Accounting will need?

Offline donation donor name scheme

Tony Lafond, Region 4, has implemented a creative solution. He uses the Event name for a first name and Donation for last name, e.g., HendersonCounty Donation.

When you use the same scheme repeatedly, don't create a new record; specify the exiting record. This avoids the Convio database from creating unecessary placeholder records for offline donations.

Offline donations

An unintended consequence of the volume of offline donations being entered via the EMC...A long list of what the Convio database interprets as duplicate donor name "Offline Donation".

I've forwarded the issue for review with the vendor; reality says this won't be fixed quickly. The obvious work-around is to create a unique donor name, e.g., firstname Offline donation for lastname Carol Adams, or some such scheme.

Or if a team has a specific fundraiser, such as 4-H Bake Sale we used that to help generate a faster response time from the system. Once we entered First Name March 4-H Bake Sale, Last Name Donation, we could just use it over and over again until all the little girls got their share of the money.
