Hi all!

I'm trying to locate anyone who has been involved in a Relay event that was held mostly during the daylight hours and not the traditional overnight. I seem to remember hearing of some but have no idea where.

12 Relay

Hi Linda,

Our relay begins at noon on Saturday and goes through midnight.  We are still able to have  beautiful luminaria ceremony at 9.  Ours was shortened to 12 hours to improve participation is such small town.  I would love to make it 18 hours but others are very hesitant.

Non-overnight event

Hi Linda,

We were forced to change our Relay event this year due to impending bad weather.  We moved it from Friday night through Saturday noon to Saturday morning to Saturday night.  It was an overwhelming success up until we ended the event after the luminary ceremony.  Although it was beautiful and very emotional, many said they were left feeling unhappy and empty.  They were ready to fight back but everything was over.

This coming year we are going to have the survivor lap at 10 am on Saturday and go all day Saturday.  The luminary ceremony will be at 9pm and then we'll go all night and end the event with a sunrise service on Sunday morning.  We can't wait!!  Smile

Overnight

Linda,

I think one of the "requirements" of Relay is that it MUST be an overnight event.  It is to highlight the fact that "cancer never sleeps", and so neither do we!
