Our theme is working on an Olympic theme but we need some ideas to build on. We're hoping to build the olympic rings in the colors representing the different cancers but not sure yet what to use for the rings. Will also have the torch and medals.Need some ideas for slogans and site decorating. Thanks

Thanks to all of you for

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. I should have posted earlier since we had our relay this past weekend. It went very well and we raised over $50,000 which we felt was quite good for our small community. (pop. approx 7,000)

Our slogan for our flag was the olympic theme...One World  One Dream  We had the rings drawn in the center with the words Go for the Gold...Beat out Cancer. We had done the medals around the different colors associated with each cancer. The medal was the lid from a mason jar that we had edged with gold glitter and each on was hanging from the ribbon  colour related to that cancer. (we had written the name in the center of the medal) We had a backboard on our site where we had again done the olympic rings. These rings were larger. They were made from embroidery hoops and we had used different colors of electrical tape to cover them. Our medals hung on our board with all the words we could think of proclaiming victory over cancer.

Hope these ideas will be helpful to someone else.

Olympic theme

I love the Olympic theme!  Because the Olympic rings signify unity and the colors represent the flags of all nations, you could use a slogan like, "United in the fight." Or "Relay 'round' the world".

Using the colors to represent the different types of cancer is great, too.  Last year our Relay theme was, "Color A Cure," and teams had fun being creative with it.

Let the games begin!  (Or "Let the fight begin!"

Olympic theme ideas

Maggie....

Our overall theme this year is "Sporting for a Cure" and I'm co-chairing the onsite committee so we've decided to go with the Olympic theme all around the track as well.  I was going to make the rings representing the colors of cancer as well.  I loved the idea of using hoolla hoops and colored tapes.  As you decorate around the track you could use slogans that match cancer prevention in some way or community activities ACS has in your area.  (I'd give exact ideas but I'm still trying to think of specifics also but if I start to come up with some I'll check back on here and share okay)

Another idea I was going to use is what Isle of Wright does with their Team Flags present on the track at all times......I'm going to ask each team to make a flag representing their team and that one person must be on the tract at all times representing their team during the 'olympics'.

We are also going to have mini relays that represent olympic games......but smaller versions of course.

Also as you make announcements try to sound as if you are a broadcaster from the olympics announcing some sort of cancer prevention or team raffle.......just make it fun!

I hope some of this helps and please also share your ideas on here so I might spark some more ideas of my own *smiles*

Happy Relayin.......Angela

Olympic Rings

Cool idea!  I'm not sure how big you want the rings to be, but you could use hula hoops and wrap them in colored duck tape or electrical tape.

I'm not too good with the slogans.  But maybe "Eliminating Cancer Worldwide"?  I'm sure there's something great that you can come with!

Good luck!!
