Just wondering what other Relays do to identify Teams on the track while they are walking.  I've seen the Spirit Stick idea but our captains weren't too excited about using them.  Any ideas?  Thanks

in our town although we get

in our town although we get free t-shirts from acs almost all of the teams have thier own shirts made up wich coinside with the theme or thier campsite  my team is in memory of my son so ours always has his picture incorporated into it somehow. we have found that alot of the local screen printers will either give you a discount on a group of t-shirts or they will make a donation to your team for using thier business to make the shirts. since my daughter also has a youth team i like it because all you need to do is spot the color tshirt they are wearing and you know were they are on the trackSmile

Team flags

Our Event set up a Team Flag Challenge... The team pledges that their flag will be on the track from the first team lap (after Survivor and Caregiver laps) to the last. You don't get anything but bragging rights, but from a handful of teams who qualified two years ago, we had well over a dozen this year (out of 48 teams).

Flags are usually home made, or a 2x4 (or so) garden flag with stick-on letters for the team name. I'm going to try to insert an animated GIF file into this reply; it's from our Website last year. It'll give you an idea of what the teams did.

IWS Relay team flags

We found it's a great bonding opportunity for the team to commit to being on the track at 3 AM.

By the way, beginning with the March monthly meetings, we had the teams bring their flags to the meetings as an incentive for others to take up the challenge. I suspect we'll have half of our teams with flags on the track this year.

Carriable Flags

I do two Relays (glutton for punishment). One does a banner but doesn't specifically do it as a fulltime track id. It's mostly for the team lap and campsites. The other Relay uses them on the track. They have 'evolved' from the big ones to hats with a flag on them, clothe 'sandwich boards' worn front and back, and superhero capes worn. Team members just exchanged it as they went on and off the track. They've gotten quite creative over the years.
