I am 16 and want to be a team leader at my community's relay this coming spring. Do I need my mom to sign up as the official leader due to my age, or am I allowed to do it on my own? and also, could you give me some tips on starting a team. I am very new at this and will take any advice you can give me. thank you.

My daughter was 12 last year

My daughter was 12 last year and was a team captain - they had a team in honor of their classmate who had cancer at the age of 4 and 8!  They took 4th place in raising funds - youth are a wonderful part of the relay!!  It is good to get some parents to help chaprone.

 of course! Our team

of course! Our team captain was 15. I think it's 12+ without parental supervision (now it sounds like a movie rating) and below you have to have your parents with you...or something like that. :D

young team leader

hi

I read your post and wanted to let you know that it would be a great experience for you to be a team captain. My daughter is 12, and she has been a captain for the last 3 years. She puts together a group of her, and her brothers friends every year and they have a team. I have been the youth recruitment chairperson for local relay for life for the past 2 years,  l want to assure you that the youth is the heart of the relay with out the youth there would be no future for the relay. I encourage you to get your mom involved with your team she will be a great asset for you to turn to. If you have young kids on your team you will need chaperoins 2 per team they do not have to be members of your team though. What we do is my daughter has a team and i have a team and we get connecting campsites so that the kids are chaperoined.  I ask the parents of the kids if they want to be on my team. usually I get a few and the rest of my team consists of my friends and family. there are several parents who dont want to be on a team but will come out and spend the night to help chaperoin. you truely want to make this a group avent don be afraid to ask for help and have fun fundraising it is a great way to spend time with your friends.Wink

hope it all comes together for you
