Looking to hear your suggestions for our 2009 Relay For Life of Second Life theme. Just a reminder, we usually try to tie the design builds, campsites, and layout of sims / islands all to this theme. So ... Here's the time and place to let us know what you think would be the perfect for our 2009 Relay For Life of Second Life.

The theme for 2009 Relay For Life of Second Life will be decided on January 14 so please get your nominations in. (Include your catchy phrase and how you see that phrase being built out.)
The nominations to date for our theme in 2009 are:
ONE WORLD - ONE HOPE (design the sims and campsites all in shades of one color)
UNITE THE WORLD - RLEAY FOR LIFE (take one "thing" that happens around the world and display each countries / cultures view of it.)
Celebrate Hope (Celebrations would be the theme to build too)
Celebrate, Remember Fight Back with Love (Love would be the theme)
Relay - A guiding light for 25 years (Light would be the theme)
It's Worth the Fight - Relay For Life (things worth fighting for would be the theme)
"Until there's a cure ... RELAY"
Fay
Time to narrow down the suggestions. Please post you nomination for Relay '09's theme in this forum no later than August 22, Friday.
Here's a couple to start the ball rolling:
One World - One Hope
Celebrate Hope
Celebrate, Remember Fight Back with Love
put that feeling you are thinking of for our theme into words and maybe it will all fall into place for us. You seem to be staying with laughter, so ... throwing out some ideas here and you guys do so too please:
Relay - laughter, tears, and detemination,
Celebrate Life w/ Laughter or maybe
Relay - Hope w/ Laughter
One For All and All for One - GO RELAY
Passion for a Cure or may be .... it's your turn now -
Fay
I love the idea of working laughter into the theme somehow. I think though that we need to be careful about using the wording "Laughter is the best medicine". I don't mean the copyright issue as it is a well known phrase or saying and I assume therefore it falls in the public domain, but ... some people could find it contentious, and you only have to google the phrase to see the bitterness it can cause in people in end stage or painful disease (e.g. how can I laugh when I have/when my aunt has ... end stage lung cancer, syphilis, you name it).
hmmm ... how about Love (PG of course)? ... or ... Laughter and Love?
The "Carnival" idea appeals to me too, although I wonder if we'd be able to get enough variety in the different builds and campsites? And I would like to see it put on a more international footing by targeting some of the different countries to provide teams. How about putting the two together and calling it "International Carnival"?
The Hope theme ... well, the Luminaria Ceremony is also known as the "Ceremony of Hope" so it is in there already.
Poppy
hmmm ... was looking through all the ideas again and I wonder if the following might wrap them all up together ...
Light, Love, and Laughter ... or
International Festival ... or
International Festival of Light, Love and Laughter ....?
(Oh, and how's this for a snotty comment picked up on Google ... "laughter is the best medicine, unless you're diabetic, then insulin comes pretty high on the list")
There's always going to be someone, somewhere, that isn't happy. I mean, if we bank too much on what might or might not upset someone, well I know people that get upset when you say Goodmorning to them, and they have nothing(physicaly) wrong with them. LOL Basically, I'm just saying that becomes a hard line to toe if we try to make EVERYONE happy.
By the way, I like the International Festival of Light, Love and Laughter idea...hmmm, three L's hehe Sorry, I find strange things amusing at times.
Hi, I just wanted to respond to Fay's post. Laughter is international. We need to help everyone all over the world fight this disease. Show them that having cancer is not the end of the world and to be happy and survive. We can beat it and we will! The families and friends of patients need some joy wherever they live.
We could have a Festival of Laughter for the Relay or something like that. Have the teams build anything that will make someone smile and bring joy. It would be a nice challenge to the international teams and our builders to come up with something in this theme. Given that we start many months in advance, there is plenty of time to plan.
I like laughter - that makes me giggle to think what the campsites would be like.
But what about something more international flavored or I think it will be ACs' 25th anniversity too. Of course we could do ... happy birthday, laughter, party ... what would an international celebration be called?
"Laughter, The best medicine" might need to go through ACS legal, since they would have to talk to Reader's Digest, which may have it as a TM or SM or some legal-sounding thingamabob. it's been the name of a feature of the magazine for probably my whole life plus some.
OTOH: it might be interesting to approach them as a potential supporter with that as a theme.
The most obvious international-sounding party word would probably be Carnivale (as celebrated in South America), but I think there might be some non-PG rated implications in that word.
I like the Laughter is the best medicine idea. For all the reasons Fxy mentioned. Also throughout relay, what I remember most after all the touching moments is the laughter we all shared. I think there are alot of creative possibilities with that. But I'll think some more.
Hi,
I told my RL second husband that I joined this group. He came up with the idea of having the theme, Laughter, the best medicine. Actually after I thought about it, it has merit. When my first husband had cancer, they let us know that cancer loves stress. So obviously, the less stress during treatment and after the better. So the focus could be to celebrate how far we have come and to show support through laughter. I think it would be so interesting to see what people would come up with for campsites.
I came up with the idea of something like, Celebration for Hope, Festival of Hope or something along those lines. Medical science has come a very long way in the treatment of cancer. It is not as deadly as it used to be, if caught in time. We should celebrate that and at the same time bring awareness to continue the fight toward a cure!
We are kinda new to the Relay, and these ideas may have been done or off the mark. But those ideas are our two cents worth anyway. Have a great day everyone.
Bye for now,
Fxy
I think for those of us who haven't been in-world since the beginning of RFL of SL, it would be good to know what the past themes were. Does someone have a list of themes used?
It sure would help to get a better idea of what to suggest, at least it would for me.
