I posted this idea last year and just wanted to put it up again. We just finished our portrait fundraiser again this year and we raise $2475 in money. It was great and everyone loved being able to look at their picture and say that was my donation to Relay for life. Our church let us use the fellowship hall to photograph in. We used Olan Mills and they are always great. You can find them on the web. Hope this helps some of you looking for new ideas.
God Bless.

We just finished this fundraiser for my daughters choir. I decided to try it with a larger group before our much smaller relay team. I suggest if you do this you take note of a few things that we did wrong-
1) Publicize it in a local paper. Have a place where people can find you so that you know they really want to have pics taken. (We sold 105 packages and only 71 were actually redeemed.)
2) It is very time consuming, so someone that has plenty of time to focus many hours should be in charge. Evenings are important because you have to call each person that purchases a certificate to set up their time. There has to be someone there at all times when the photographer is there, so you are looking at 8-12 hours each day, min of 2 days during pictures and pickup two weeks later. Have people lined up as soon as you start the fundraiser to eliminate having to sit there all day yourself.
3) Have a contact number of the photographer before the event dates. Our photographer showed up 2 hours late because she couldn't find the mall we were using for pictures. The number that she was given to contact us was incorrect. Then she had technical difficulties and we had to reschedule our first 6 appointments, at least 2 did not come back.
4) Keep excellent track of your number photographed. We are pretty sure that they were shaving some of the numbers. We got credit for 71 but were pretty sure we had more than that. The bonus gets bumped from $300 to $600 if you photograph 75 people.
I am not bashing the fundraiser, we were able to make over $1000 for our group. It is just very time consuming so be aware before getting involved.
THANK YOU so much for sharing this idea as it hadn't occured to me before to do this. I just made reservations to do this in December with Olan Mills and we will get our pictures back before Christmas. I'm super excited. Anyway, I just wanted to give you credit!!!
This is a terrific idea! Our MOPS group at our church did one similar but thru a different company. With that one we sold coupons for $10.00 and they would get an 8x10 with the option to buy more.
How does the fundraiser thru Olan Mills work? Do you sell coupons and set up sitting times? I love this idea for a Christmas fundraiser!
Thanks for sharing!!!
