HELP!!! I'M IN NEED OF SOME NEW IDEAS FOR FUNDRAISERS
|
I NEED YOUR HELP. WE JUST FINISHED OUR RELAY FOR 2008 2 WEEKS AGO. I LIKED THE IDEA FOR THE LAP BEADS. THAT'S DIFFERENT AND VERY CREATIVE. MY TEAM USED TO DO A SPAGHETTI DINNER AS A FUNRAISER BUT IT'S BEEN HARD TO GET EVERYONE TOGETHER IN THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS. SO WE DECIDED TO DO WHAT SOME OF THE OTHER TEAMS ARE DOING.... FUNDRAISE ALL YEAR ROUND. BUT, I NEED SOME OTHER IDEAS OTHER THAN THE RAFFLE, CAR WASH, BAKE SALE. WE ARE PLANNING TO DO THEM OF COURSE, BUT, I NEED SOME NEW IDEAS THAT WOULD CATCH ATTENTION AND RAISE A LOT OF MONEY. I KNOW THIS IS WRONG, BUT.... I WANT TO BE THE TOP FUNDRAISING TEAM IN 2009. MY TEAM HAS BEEN A TOP FUNDRAISER IN THE PAST. AND WE WANT TO BE THAT WAY AGAIN. DOES ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE ANY IDEAS????? I COULD SURE USE THEM. Big Boy Fundraiser
Our local Big Boy has a fundraising night about once a week. They offer groups the opportunity to come in and work as the waitstaff (following a regular waitstaff around and helping them). We got 100% of the tips and a portion of the sales that night. We also had a Silent Auction along with it. We raised over $800 on the Silent Auction and $1300 on the tips & sales. It's worth asking them about doing one in your area. If you don't have a Big Boy maybe another restaurant would be willing to do it for you.
Donate your change to make a change
Do you have any events coming up in your community?? Recently at work, we had a group make labels for water bottles. The labels asked the person drinking the water to fill it with change when they were done. They provided a phone number so the person could call to have the bottle retrieved. My guess is you could get the water donated. i got an idea!!
Try a "jail n bail"--my old team did it and got great results. Try a Mini Relay
A great fundraiser that I love to do is the Mini Relay. Ask your staff partner for the kit. It is geared towards school-aged children and is both fun and educational. I did it at the elementary school I work at and raised almost $2,000. It was our first time but know that our next Mini Relay will surpass this years' (now that everyone knows what to expect)! Fundraising ideas
Congratulations on wanting your team to be the top fundraising team at your Relay! I think that is great - and there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to be the best! And you are so right in knowing that fundraising year-round is the way to go. Some of the top fundraising teams across the nation do the basics like you mentioned before but they also do some big events too. I know of a team who worked with their local radio station DJ who had contacts with a country music artist who was coming out with a new album. He was willing to come to our small town for expenses only and put on a great acoustic concert without his full back-up band. The tickets were reasonable, the location donated the use of the auditorium and the event raised over $10,000 for the Relay team. Other top teams host golf tournaments, dance contests, and plan shows that will draw a crowd that is willing to pay for the experience. Just make sure that you can pay for the necessary expenses and not expect everything to be donated to you - you can make the money back! And don't forget about fundraising at the Relay event - my church youth group's team raises between $800-$1000 each year by renting one of those inflatable things that kids love to jump, climb, box, etc. and pay a couple of bucks to play in. Good luck with your fundraising! $$$ Ideas
Have you tried using the leftover event tee shirts as part of your fundraising? Especially with a year to go before next time .... try using the shirt front as the center of a handmade quilted item to be raffled or auctioned off -- we used a smallish quilt this year in a silent auction, and everyone wanted it! If someone's a clever seamstress, I'd bet a jacket or vest would work, too; the overnight part of a Relay can be chilly --! Best of luck to you in becoming the best fundraising team in your Relay event next year -- my team had that honor at the end of the actual event this past weekend, and it really does feel good. Thanks for the Fundraising Ideas!!!
HI EVERYONE, I JUST WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THEIR IDEAS. I DO HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS ABOUT THE LAP BEAD IDEA...... WHAT LENGTH DO YOU USE FOR THE LANYARD?, WHAT TYPE OF STRING....CORDING, PLASTIC, YARN....?, HOW DO YOU PREVENT THE BEADS FROM FALLING OFF IN BETWEEN LAPS AND WHAT DO YOU USE? SOMEONE KEPT MENTIONING PIECES OF FOAM??? BUT HOW? I COULD STILL USE ALL THE IDEAS I CAN GET. MY E-MAIL ADDRESS IS.... HOPE EVERYONE'S RELAYS ARE GOING OKAY OR WENT WELL. THANKS A BUNCH!!! I think it is AWESOME that you want to be the top fundraising team. That's how we continue to raise more and more every year as a Relay community, by pushing to be #1! Here are a few ideas that worked for my team: -Craft Fair - have people who craft donate items (scarves, jewelry, accessories, homemade cards, heating pads - made of rice and sewn together with fabric - you heat in the microwave for 45 seconds). Have a big craft fair at your church or at work if possible. Get into any fairs or outdoor events where there are vendors with booths. If you tell them you are raising money for the American Cancer Society, sometimes they will give you a booth space and not charge you. See if you can get a free booth at a home show. -Gift Wrapping during Christmas - collect giftwrap from team members, so there's no cost to the team. Charge a small fee (we charged $20 for up to 8 presents at a public gift wrapping with wine and cheese and $15 for 8 gifts to employees, and served juice and cake) This was a good money-maker but this Christmas we are going to blow last year's out of the water! Sometimes stores like Barnes and Noble or even malls will let you set up a booth outside or just inside their doors. -Make stretch bracelets. Our team raised about $8000 selling these. Start making them now and sell them during Christmas. People buy a bunch as stocking stuffers. We made more selling those than we did doing the gift wrap. Go to Michael's or Ben Franklin Crafts for beads. You should be able to find the stretch string at Wal-Mart fairly cheap. It's called Bead 'N Stretch and you can get a roll for about $3. This is something that grew and now we sell anklets, necklaces and earrings. You can also make bracelets with specific cancer colors and sell those at the Relay. I started making a few and am now a confessed crafter and I bead all the time! We are making a bunch of stuff in the next few months (our Relay is done) so that we don't have to make a lot when Relay planning kicks into high gear for next year. You can spend about $100 on beading stuff and make a lot of bracelets. We sold ours for $2 each or 3 for $5. If the beads were more expensive, we raised the price of a bracelet accordingly. -Silent Auction and Wine Tasting. The wine and auction items all get donated and if you can get the location donated, your overhead shouldn't be too bad. We are hoping to do that this coming year as our BIG fundraiser. Organized well and with good publicity and good auction items, you could easily raise $10,000. -Dine to Donates - Set up with a restaurant to have one night where people come and eat there and a portion of the sales goes to your teams. You do nothing but talk it up. You should make a couple hundred from that. Good luck! Hope this helps. Year-round fundraising is the way to go! Heather |
