Our team is doing a birdhouse auction fundraiser that I think would do well in other communities.  One of our members donated simple birdhouses purchased at a craft store for artists, community organizations and individuals to change in some creative way.  Our auction will be this Saturday (May 10) and we're hoping for terrific results.  If you'd like to see the birdhouses, check out our website at www.gallupbirdhouses.com .  We started out planning on having 25 birdhouses... and ended up with 85!

Cute idea

We are doing something similiar. This is our second year taking teddy bears, and designing them in various ways. We have asked local and area 'celebrities' to design the bears, as well as many individuals. Last year was the first year with around 14 bears bringing $1600, at live auction. Our auction is set for May 20th this year, and we hope to do even better since we have more bears. We also have a dinner prior to the auction which brings in additional money for Relay.

cool!

That is an awesome idea! I love it! We might try it next year.

Did you just ask local businesses to decorate them?

How much did it cost to get the birdhouse forms? I know I Have seen them at our craft store.

Try it!

We got the birdhouses at Hobby Lobby for $3.99 each.  Gallup has lots of artists and other very creative people.  I asked lots of artists, organizations (like the fire department, the library, the hospital auxillary, etc.) teachers and other individuals.  Very few said they weren't interested...and several have volunteered to make another next year!
