Our event is in 11 days and as of right now, we will definitely need to continue raising money after the event in order to make our goal. We can continue raising $$ and turning it in until the end of August, and so wanted to find out what great ideas are out there for fundraising after the Relay.
One thing that we will do is let teams know that if each team could just raise "$X" then we will reach our goal. An online fundraising email blitz is another way we'll continue to raise money.
Another option is matching gifts as a way to double -- or even triple -- some donations. There is a matching gifts page on cancer.org that is really useful: http://www.matchinggifts.com/acs/
I know there are so many amazing and creative ideas out there. Please share what you are doing to make your goal (or even surpass it!) after your Relay.
My suggestion is to recycle bottle, cans, and plastics. Our team does this all year round and it allows for us to purchase items for day of event on site drawings, and to pay for special event permits n such for an annual mountain bike race that we hold. I go on early morning walks through our local parks and started to notice how many people just throw away these items. So now, everyday I go out with a 30 gallon trash bag and my stick and collect all of the recycling that people just tossa aside. Some days I fill up only one bag and on weekends I usually fill up 5 or 6 depending on what events are happening. We get $1.65 a lb for cans and a little less for plastic n glass. Not only are we helping raising money, but we are also saving these items from being lost to the landfills. Get your neighbors involved and ask local business' what they do with their recycling. I have social clubs that allow me to put cans out when they have events to collect the recycles.
It is a very easy way to raise funds and also make it a fun and interesting learning activity for the kids!!
Good Luck With Your Event!

I'm the event chair for the Roselle, Bloomingdale, & Itasca Relay For Life in Illiniois. We are going to be having a night at Buona Beef where we get a portion of the money they bring in. This is out first time doing this, so I hope it is a success. I've also heard that Wendy's and Oberweis Dairy do the same thing.
Good Luck Everyone!

Post-Fundraising Ideas
It's hard to keep fundraising throughout the year and after the event is over. One way that we do it is through my jewelry business. I donate a portion of each sale throughout the year to our team. Several of my teammates buy gifts from my site as they need them for different things and they know they are helping to support the cause while taking care of gift items as well. They also pass out my business cards to their friends and family and we give out a special discount as well encouraging people to buy and support a cause all at the same time. I would encourage you to do some smaller fundraisers throughout the year to help keep the Relay message out there during the entire year and not just right around the time you need most of your money! Dinners are always a good thing that people will participate in, selling candy, having bake sales, things like this area always good and quick little fundraisers that will add up over time! That way the goal you set will hopefully be met and passed each year!

Post Event Fundraising
Hey there...I am not sure when this was posted but I thought of a couple of things that may help. Also I am not sure how big of a community or area your Relay is but here they are...
If y'all have access to a church or volunteer Fire Dept. you can have a Pancake Breakfast on a Saturday morning or a Spaghetti Dinner on a Friday or Saturday night. Pancake Breakfast is fairly easy and easy money...serve pancakes, bacon or sausage and drink for $5.00 per plate. Milk, coffee and Orange Juice. If you have a Sam's in your community hit them up at the beginning of the month for a donation (gift card) and then hit local dairies for milk and OJ. Have teams donate the paper products and coffee supplies. **Hint cook meat the night before or you will never catch up (been there and done that, learned the hard way). Spaghetti dinners are easy and always a success... Spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and drink $5.00 plate. Again Sam's for a donation card, local groceries for donations, Publix good community supporter.
We do a tennis tournament with a silent auction post event and it usually brings in a good bit.
Another idea is photography...while I have never done it another team did and they did quite well. They sold the coupons for the sittings and profits were good.
Hope these help...good luck!!

If you have an Applebee's in
If you have an Applebee's in your area contact them about having a Pancake Breakfast. My team hosted one in Jan 08 and we made $1500. We charged $5.00 per ticket (which we made) and the resturant kept $2 and we kept $3. We then paid the salary of the two employees who were doing the cooking. Your team will work as hosts, wait staff, bus staff and servers.
They also have a program called Dining to Donate where they will contribute 15% per bill to your team/event. You will need to design posters/cards to pass out to family and friends and ask them to dine on a night you have worked out with Applebee's.
The manager of ours Applebee's has designated Jan. 09 as Relay Month. He is allowing 5 teams to host a breakfast each Saturday in Jan to kickoff fundraising for next year.

Applebee's
Wow! That is awesome! Where is your Applebee's? We don't have one in our neighborhood, but there are some not too far away from us.
