I'm a Licensed Massage Therapist in a small Texas county. I've been asked to participate in Relay for Life. I'm happy to, but need advice from how to set up, charge for services, decorating; everything. I'd like to offer 15 minute & 30 minute sessions on either a massage chair or table.

Waiting to hear from you, BonnieB

HI!, I am an LMT as well in

HI!, I am an LMT as well in OHIO. I just recently worked a relay event on a college campus and it went VERY WELL.  we had two tables set up, no sheets, we disenfected after each use,  and offered 10 min sessions for a 5 dollar donation, but took anything, if they had 3, it was okay.  we were SLAMMED. we had short quick waviers they signed saying they were medically capable to get massage, and several additional LMT's to  help switch shifts when we got tired.  we were each doing about  to 4 an hour, but there were times when two hours were completely full.  we had a time sheet so if people didn't want to wait around, they signed up for a certain time slot. this also allowed for us to block off time to have breaks.  we stayed all night,  had alot of leg and feet, and shoulder and neck complaints, we brought lotion just incase, ddn't use very much at all, and earned 300.00 for relay. We took out just what we spent in supplies and relay got the rest. it was a blast. if i had to do something different through, I wouldn't have stayed all night. I got 3 hours  of sleep which was okay by me.. but after about 2 a.m. we didn't get anyone else. most people served their time and went home by then.  stay til 2 if you can, and sleep until the final events and awards.  that's my plan for the next one in 2 weeks.   I plan on having a hell of a summer!!!   :)

OMG!

Oh My Gosh, Mandy!  You have given me so much useful information!  This will be a great help as I plan this first event for us.  All the feedback I have gotten regarding Massage Therapy at RFL has been positive and I'm really getting excited about our May 16th event.  I'm open for even more comments, so keep 'em comin', Y'all.  BonnieB

What do you think?

The team member I'm working with suggested 15 min/$10.  One dollar/minute is the customary rate for chair massage.  Should I mention this ?  Is a 15 minute session too long for this type venue?  I have a reflexology chair and considered offering foot massage (not reflexology) and face or scalp massage, too.  What do you think?  BonnieB

I am part of a Relay in a

I am part of a Relay in a small town in Illinois and one of our teams is doing the same thing this year.  I believe what they are doing is 10 minutes for a minimum of a $10 donation.  I think this is a great idea.  After walking all night I know I would pay anything for a massage!

Hi Bonnie - my name is Trish and I am a former co-chair for the RFL of Burleson, TX.  We have done these in the past and would charge $5 for 5 minutes.  You will not believe the buisness you will get!  As far as decorating is concerned, It really depends on the theme that is chosen - either by the committee or your team.

Good luck!

Trish

massage

Hi Bonnie

Our Relay in Hudsonville Michigan hosts what we call a survivors spa. We set up under a tent and decorate it with plants. We have survivors come in for FREE and suggested donations for others. Besides massages we offer hair cuts, manicures, makeup, whatever services we can get donated. My husband who has since died of colon cancer loved the massages. That was one of his favorite parts of Relay. We have had both chair & table massages available and both seem very popular with our participants. Good luck!!
