I'm hoping for some creative assistance here.
We are promoting our local Relay for Life walk using printed flyers and newsletters to solicitate donations in the Relay for Life San Fernando Valley Birmingham HS. The team is Valley Professional Network, which rasied over $20k at last years event.
The structure of links, pages and searches on the ACS/Relay for Life website make it extremely frustrating and difficult to provide someone with a simple link to our event page.
The logins don't work. The search does not work on the main keywords. I can't print the following:
http://relay.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RelayForLifeCaliforniaDivision?fr_id=5080&pg=entry
on a flyer, and expect people to type this into their browser and get it right.
Is there no simple way to allow people to simply go to the correct webpage to allow donations?
Last year it was a simple matter of going to an alias or something similar. The prospect would go to XYZRelayForLife.org, click on Make a Donation, and be donating with 2-3 more clicks. Not this year. Of course, we can provide a link if we email directly to prospective donors, but we are using print advertising.
Any help, here? The overly complex ACS/Relay web structure makes it unneccesarily difficult to raise money!

You already have a goto address...
http://www.events.cancer.org/rflsanfernandovalleyca
You can also write it as http://www.events.cancer.org/rflSANFERNANDOVALLEYca
I believe your online chair has the power to change it, but they recommend using this format. Each team can also set their own friendly url. The link will show you a one page pdf on how to do it.
Good Luck.
Get a redirect URL- we did, too!
As another person posted- go to www.godaddy.com, purchase a URL that redirects to the "ugly" but necessary ACS one. We got www.SpringboroRelay.org - the .org costs $15 per year, as opposed to only $10 for a .com , however, we thought it was worth the extra 5 bucks.
Good luck, let me know if you need add't'l help-

Making it simpler to promote
Piece of cake. Go to godaddy.com and purchase a Domain. $10 a year...write it off as your donation to the cause.
I bought a few of them for ours and then you can forward the domain to the ACS website.
You can check out the Frederick Relay for Life by just going to FrederickRelay.com. Any questions just email me I'll gladly help you set it up.
You can do this for team and individual websites too. You just need the actually URL of the site you are trying to simplify.
