Hi everyone,

I'm a student at Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts and we held our first Relay last weekend on campus for students, faculty and staff. I'm an 18 year leukemia survivor and we had 22 survivors sign up and I thought "oh awesome, I'm going to be able meet other students who had cancer too". Well only 8 survivors showed up and I was the only student at the Survivor Dinner. I am going to be on the committee next year and I'm the Survivor Chair and my question to all of you is does anyone have any ideas on how to recruit survivors, especially student-survivors for our Relay so we more than 8 show up next year? I would really appreciate your imput,

Sarah

recruiting survivors

Sarah,

This is only going to be the second year for our relay, but we are lucky enough to have our local hospital as a sponsor and they handle sending out letters to all their cancer survivors regarding signing up for the luncheon.  This is something they do as we, of course, are not able to get access to their records.

Sarah, I'm new to the

Sarah,

I'm new to the survivorship chair in my Relay, but a great idea that came from another event in our Region was this survivor flyer.  It had a place for name, address, shirt size, type of cancer and years of survivorship listed, plus all the info. about Relay.  The person who created the flyer distributed it to churches, doctor's offices, etc.  Is it possible you could make a flyer and distribute it across your campus?  Are there other ways you could make annoucements regarding Relay at your school?  I hope that helps...good luck!

Send me a message if you want to see the flyer!
