Dear Mayor Kordonowy:

I am the event co-chair for our second annual Relay For Life of Bainbridge Island, a signature event of the American Cancer Society.  This year’s event will be held at the Bainbridge Island High School track on July 28^th & 29^th.   I speak not only for myself but the entire Relay committee and the countless number of Relay volunteers when I say that we are really looking forward to this year’s event! 

As you may already know, Relay is an overnight event - a celebration - that honors cancer survivors, remembers those who have lost their battles with cancer, and a real team effort to walk around a track throughout the night, “Relay” style, while raising awareness and funds in the fight against cancer.

In preparation for this year’s event and with the desire of making it even more of a success this year, we are hoping that the City will assist us with the following items.  

• We would be honored if you would consider enacting a Relay Proclamation, declaring July 28^th & 29^th, 2007 “Relay for Life of Bainbridge Island Days.”  I have enclosed a sample proclamation for your review;
• We hope you will consider a one night noise ordinance abatement.  In true Relay fashion, during the event on July 28^th and 29^th, we would like to be able to schedule continued entertainment throughout the night.  While we will not schedule any loud or noisy entertainment after midnight, we are considering showing a midnight movie, as well as some other more mellow late-night activities;
• We also hope that you will consider coming out to speak during the opening ceremonies of Relay on July 28^th at 4:00 pm.

We invite you to attend our Relay Kick-Off event on February 25^th at 4:00 pm, at the Senior Center Commons.  We will have food, games, entertainment, and information on what Relay is about.

Here's a Proclamation re: RFL Days:

 PROCLAMATION 

A PROCLAMATION by the Mayor of the City of Bainbridge Island, declaring the days of July 28^th & 29^th, 2007 as Relay for Life of Bainbridge Island Days. WHEREAS, cancer is a group of diseases characterized by uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells which, if not controlled, can result in death; and WHEREAS, The American Cancer Society is a voluntary community based health organization in the State dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem; and WHEREAS, the Relay for Life is a “Celebration of Life” benefiting the American Cancer Society; and WHEREAS, The Relay for Life is a community affair held through the State of Washington which presents an opportunity to join with neighbors, friends, and family to raise funds for research and services;  NOW, THEREFORE, I, Darlene Kordonowy, Mayor of the City of Bainbridge Island do hereby proclaim July 28^th and 29^th, 2007, as “THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY’S RELAY FOR LIFE OF BAINBRIDGE ISLAND DAYS” In the City of Bainbridge Island, and I invite all citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with the work of the American Cancer Society, and to recognize Relay for Life of Bainbridge Island as a signature event. SIGNED, this ________ day of ________, 2007.

I've messed around with the font size, etc., so I could squeeze it in here.  It doesn't look as nice here, but it will give you an idea.  There should be an underline above the Mayor's name where she signs.  I hope this helps.
