I am a registered nurse living in West Branch. I have practiced as a chemotherapy nurse, a home care nurse, and in the hospital on surgical, medical, and critical care units. In my working role, I have been directly involved in literally hundreds of families fighting cancer. Some of these families have been my neighbors, relatives, my childrens' friends, and members of my congregation. As I cared for them, I found a deep desire to DO SOMETHING to fight back against this disease that devastates so many of those I love. I decided to become active In Relay for Life as a vehicle for action. My favorite time of Relay is the luminary ceremony when we walk the track and I can read the names of all those people I have helped to care for in my community. As I walk, I silently promise each of them, one more time, that their fight is not over, nor is it in vain because I will continue that fight for them.
