I have been involved in Relay since 2005. My husband Bruce was diagnosed with early stage 4 colon cancer in December of 04. He died just over a year ago in March of 07. It is so frustrating to think his cancer may have been prevented by a colonoscopy instead of the sigmoidoscopy he had 2 years prior to diagnosis. Bruce was just 56. Also last year my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer. He died two weeks later due to complications from the surgery to remove the tumor. So I lost two of the most important men in my life just eight weeks apart. They are my reason to continue to relay. I have several aunts & uncles that have also died of several forms of cancer so it has really impacted my family.

thanks for your support
thank you for your words of encouragement, and to be quite honest i am real enthused about doing this,5 yrs ago i lost my sister in law to cancer she was 38 , and well i been participating in relays since then but took on a challenge to do more this year and raise money for the cause as a family ,it gives us a cause to work as a team and do something productive as a family as well, my nephew who is 8 now was 2 when she passed away, is excited about doing something special as well to keep her spirit alive . my mother is a breast cancer survivor and so we have good reason to intimately get involved , thank you and keep me on your buddy list....with love, maddy
