My team would like to do a bake sale, and the only place we can think of would be our local Kroger store that has a large entrance, where the carts there, where everyone would see.  How do I (and who do I) ask to be able to set up a table for a few hours on a Saturday? We are thinking we'll have different goodies, some chocolate candies, and luminary forms. I'm also thinking it will be "By Donation" instead of pricing everything.

So, how  and who do I ask? And to those who have done a bakesale, what did you rake in?!

Hello fellow Buckeye Relayer!

Hi Amanda...

Bake sales can be lots of fun, but also lots of work.  I'm not trying to discourage you in any manner, our team does several.  I have found that our local Kroger (Mansfield) won't let us set up a table there because we're not selling "sealed" goodies.  I guess it's a liability or something.  BUT, check with Wal-Mart, we've set up there.  Or check a locally owned grocery store, we've had luck with those also.

As for what we bring in?  Well, our team consists of 7 members, one being 4 years old.  So I consider any fundraiser that we do that brings in a hundred dollars a success.  Our last bake sale, we made $200.00!  Each team member contributes goodies and the team keeps all the profits.

As far as a license or something like that, we've never had to have one.  So I don't know if that's a state wide thing or just a Richland county thing.

We have found that regular cookies don't sell that well.  Like Chocolate Chip and things like that.  People tend to buy the things that they don't want to take the time themselves to make, like Buckeyes (best seller), Peanut Butter Squares (second best seller), fudge.  Things like that.  We also hand out Luminaria forms and info about Relay.  And ALWAYS have a donation can sitting out...a lot of people don't want to buy anything, but will put a couple of bucks in the can!

Good luck and happy fundraising!

First you have to go to

First you have to go to the store and ask to speak to the manager. Then ask about selling. Most stores say only if you buy the stuff you sell from us so yah. Then if they say yes go to the town hall and ask about a licence for selling food. Some areas require them and some dont so just make sure. And an Idea for selling and advertising the relay is to give out relay boloons. To kids mostly.

Not "For Sale" Without Food Sale License!

How very generous of you to do this!

Please check with your local authorities, but I know here you must have a food sale license to sell food -- even for fundraising.  Here we MUST offer "for suggested donation" because we can't afford/don't want hassle of a license.

Ask the store manager. That's all it takes!

Good luck to you!
