Hi all,  We've been trying to find alternatives to a balloon release for our closing Fight Back ceremony.  The emotional impact is wonderful but many of our relayers are quite concerned about the physical impact the balloons have on our environment. We thought of butterflies but they are expensive and need to have slightly warmer weather than we expect at closing ceremony.  We also looked at cellulose balloons but they are VERY expensive.  Any other thoughts??  Thanks in advance. Fight Back flags

Hey, we have run into similar concerns on our committee.  We've decided not to use balloons for their impact on the environment.  Instead, we've decided to really promote the use of the Fight Back flags at our event.  We loved how they looked in the promo video and we're hoping to create the same type of setting where people are asked to pick up a flag to represent someone who has/will be diagnosed with cancer this year.  Even though we lose the impact of the "releasing (whatever)" we can reinforce the message of the Fight Back ceremony and give people something to take home with them as a reminder of what they can do after the event.

Alternatives for Balloon release?

We release doves here in Fremont.  We have a gentleman that brings them in. You could try to find a local contact using the yellow pages.  It is a beautiful site seeing them in flight.  Good luck.
