This is my first year as a team Captain, and I have read lots of wonderful ideas for event fundraising. My question is, if I want to make something (like bracelets) or purchase something (like car ribbons) to offer for donation, do I reimburse myself for any out of pocket expenses? I am planning on asking local businesses to donate the items I am looking for but I didnt know how it worked.
I am a TC as well and my team helps out when possible but after the fundraiser gets going then it pays for itself!! And what you "buy" you can count as a Donation to Relay on taxes come next April!
We make several homemade items. As captain, I generally incur most of the expenses. Depending on the amount, I will reimburse myself for some of the expenses. We discussed this as a team and although we want to raise money for ACS we all agreed that one person should not shoulder all of the expense.
What works best for us is this......I agreed to purchase the supplies for one of our projects (our candles for example) we will all work hard to sell the ones we made and we will use some of the money raised from the sale of the candles to buy more supplies to make more candles. So I pay for the first batch, but after that the fundraiser sustains itself.
I am sure that none of us object to spending our money in order to raise money for ACS, but not all of us have a cushion of extra money that can easily be spent.
I think it depends. My team usually sets up a consession stand ot a show for a week. Al the team members either work or bring stuff to sell. We do not pay it back. At the end of the week i collect everything that is left over and bring it to relay. Its nice be then we have snacks and drinks and what not. After that, its free for taking. After relay any one can take whats left over. I just think its easier to take all the money and put it in to relay instead of having sit there and sort through everything. I hope this helps.
