We want to do an art contest for our county elementary schools and then post the art at Relay and let people "vote" on their favorite as an onsite fundraiser.  Has anyone ever done this at their event?  If so, how did you organize it?  I was thinking about a pre-registration form where we give them a Relay related theme.

art contest

My sons school had what they called "art in the park" . They did this after school one week before the relay out behind the school. They matted the pictures on black posters cut to look like picture mats. They hung string for a line and paperclipped the art. They invited all the parents to the outdoor gallery and sold the master pieces for 2.00 a piece. Then the ones left over were taken to the relay to be sold if any parent could'nt make it to the other event. Some of the art was randomly placed in different areas of the art show on esils to make it look like an art gallery. This was a great success because who can refuse to buy their own childs art work. It was not a contest, because they thought they could bring in more money this way. The children created 2 to 3 pieces of artwork a piece so that could be up to 6.00 per child that the parents could spend. All the children left proud knowing their parent actually payed money for something that they created. It was touching to see them this proud. I hope this was helpful.
