This is just the neatest fundraiser idea and just as doable (is that a word?) in real life as Second Life. My sister, Tay, also the Teams Chair for our Relay, passed me a note about this fundraiser our friend, Clio, was organizing and the more I read, the more I giggled, and thought how much fun it would be to participate. It was a major belly laugh too, as Jed (my husband) and I posed for the pictures and made faces at each other and Clio. (picture below)
Anyway...I can't explain the idea any better than the notecard Clio passed out so with her permission; here it is. And may this idea bring those of you that try it as many laughs and as much money for Relay as it is Clio.
Clio's note:
As some of you may remember, a few years back I did a little photo project called "Clowning around SL", where I displayed pictures of residents wearing a clown noses. I am at it again, this time with a little twist, I will be using the project to raise funds to donate to the ACS (American Cancer Society) annual RFL (Relay For Life) fundraiser.
This time around, the project is called "Thumbing our nose at Cancer”.
How will this work? I am requesting that those that wish to pose for the display (A) wear a clown nose for their portrait of course, (B) Make a 10.00 donation and (C) tell others who might be interested in posing and/or donating to this most worthy of causes! The completed images will be displayed during the RFL official event.
Those interested in posing and "Thumbing their Nose at Cancer", please contact me (stpaulsub Clio) to arrange a posing appointment.
Thank you so very much in advance for helping us all make a difference together!
Clio
I've included the following which is a IM from a very old friend of mine who I asked to pose.
*XXXXXXXX: Hey honey, I am gonna have to log out shortly - ironically enough to go spend the evening with my father who is dying of cancer in the nursing home (we think he has only a week or two left)
Her need to decline my pose request brought home to me the real reason we all work so hard to raise these funds. RFL isn't about a competition to see who raises the most funds; it is about saving lives and easing the suffering of those fighting Cancer and those who love them.
* IM used anonymously with permission
Clio, YOU ROCK! Thank you for this entertaining fundraising idea and for the reminder that though the funds raised are important, we really Relay for the people.
With ya in the Fight,
Fay
