Our Relay, Riverside/Wright-Patt Area, is thinking about giving the people who donate for a luminaria, the option of decorating it to make it more personal.  Any suggestions on how to do this?  I have some ideas, but would like to hear from others as well.

luminarias decorating ideas

Have people donate scrapbooking items...cutouts, stickers, glitter, pencils, bright colors, all make their luminaria stand out amongst the thousands lined up!

remind them early on to bring a photo...and make sure you have tape and glue stick to attach other personal items to the bags...

Make it fun and special

Good Luck...Rose, Watsonville CA

Decorating Luminaria

For those who purchase before Relay, the Relayer can give them the option of decorating themself or having the Relayer decorate.  This way, they are far more personal than what the Luminaria committee, who doesn't know the purchaser or the honoree could create.  And they also tend to be more creative and have more meaning.

On the day of Relay, the bags that have already been made can be put out by the Relayers who made/sold them.  This way, they know where their bags are and can take pictures of them to send as Thank Yous, if they like.

And on Relay Day, as bags are donated for, the donator has the choice to make the bag or have them made for them.

If you track names for a Luminaria display, you can have those selling the bags ahead of time keep a list of names and whether they are Honors or Remembers and turn those in at Bank Night or on a flow basis.  This way, the names can already be in a spreadsheet for putting into Powerpoint or whatever program you use to display them.
