We have had to schedule our dinner "outside" this year just prior to the start of the event. The dinner chair worried about it not being special since it's outside..does anyone have ideas of how to do it .  Of course , we do the medals to the survivors and survivors lap.

Thanks!

If your tent is large enough

If your tent is large enough you could have your dinner under it.  Last year we had a dinner inside the school, and this year we are wanting to do something almost the same, have something outside for the survivors.  We're thinking of a goody bag with treats and having some finger foods/snacks out during the event.

Good luck!

survivor dinner

I love the idea of strung lights and we have made plans to do that at ours as well.  We also found small white lunch bags and have put the RFL logo in the bottom corner so that they look like mini-luminaria bags.  I was thinking about using those as centerpieces with battery operated candles inside.  You could also decorate the tables with confetti of ribbons or the word HOPE.

Good luck!

Outside celebration

Will it be under a canopy or EZUp?  You could string battery operated lights or solor lights.  And you could pick a theme to decorate with, like Luau or Hollywood.  You could dress the tables to go along with the theme with nice tablecloths and place cards.  But by having a canopy or something that defines the space, it enables you to make it fancier.  Even if you just have a decorated arch for them to walk through, you offer the chance to create another world on the other side.
