Hi I am new to being a chair I have only been involved for a couple of years.  I don't know where to start other than knowing I will have to get food for the meal. I know in  the past the survivors were given their shirts and sash also I think they were given little gifts.  I would appreciate any ideas also what kind of food have you had for the reception? Also if you have given gifts?

Survivor Suggestions

Hi Linda,

There is a Survivor Chair Handbook on this site under Relay Resources that will have lots of info for you.

Last year, our Survivor Chair cut our 10"x10" squares in different coordinating purple material. She had each survivor trace their hand and write a message on the square. We then had the squares put together in a quilt to auction off this year to make money.

One thing we sometimes

One thing we sometimes forget is to have some kind of lighting in the Survivor tent.  It can get very dark in there when the sun goes down and during the Luminaria ceremony.

We have had a catered bbq

We have had a catered bbq dinner for our survivors, and then we also have a large cake and punch.  Our meal usually consists of a couple different smoked meats, potato salad, and beans.  We have in the past tried to have a few sugar free items for those that can't have cake, or we do a vegtable tray.

Our Survivor Committee does an amazing job.  We have little gifts for the survivors and gift bags just depends on what we have donated. We have done little paper cubes and pens or playing cards.
