Does anyone out there have ideas for doing a Team of the Relay?? Last year at our Relay, we did this but only did it during Relay. We had 24 hours of events/activities/games that teams could participate in and earn points for. Points varied (more points during 2am-5am, or for more challenging "out of the box" games, and mission/advocacy-related games), and anyone that participated could earn points for their team, plus winners earned additional points. Then at the end, we gave out purple crowns to the winning team.
This year, we're looking to expand the concept to include awarding points for pre-Relay activities that will help encourage more involvement. So we want to give points for attending meetings, being on the committee, turning in Tell A Friend forms, etc....
We're also trying to come up with a way to recognize last year's Team this year, and how to appropriately recognize the winning team at the end of this year's Relay.
Does your Relay do anything like this? If so, please share ideas and more!

I really like this idea! Our Relay is kind of lacking momentum and spirit, and we were trying to think of something to do to boost morale. Could you send me some more information at cld0528@gmail.com? Anything that you have (forms, etc.) would be helpful. Right now we are without an activities chair, so I would need to have as much info as possible :) Thanks in advance.

So just an update to share some more on this Team of the Relay thing... as we nail down the program for this summer's Relay, we've come up with some pre-Relay point opportunities!
- Attending meetings
- Tell-A-Friend Forms (returned and completed)
- Committee Involvement
- Bringing on new teams
- Registering team members online
- Turning in forms on time (tent form, shirts, luminaria names, etc...)
We're still trying to figure out more pre-Relay point incentives, so please share! You'll notice some of the items are things the teams are going to do anyhow, so they're easy points, we're just giving incentive to do it on time!
Team of Relay
We gave points for several different things at team captains meetings. Signing up the most survivors, team with the most money online since the previous meeting, selling the most luminarias, etc.
Our activities chair then took that information from prior to Relay and added points to it night of. Best campsite, best spirit stick, points given for involvement in games, etc.
She spraypainted an old tennis shoe with gold and mounted it trophy style. The team with the most points was presented the "old shoe" award at the end of the evening. It will be passed along to the winning team this year.

Wow, I love this idea! We do a lot of these things but haven't given points out for participating and we've never crowned a Team. This is such a great way to get teams to participate! I can't wait to share your idea!
Do you literally crown a team? Or is there a trophy of sorts that you award? I'm thinking a gold & jewel encrusted plunger (for flushing cancer away?) would be nice.
