I am interested in trying to organize a Texas Hold-Em Poker Tournament to help raise money for my relay team. I have played in some tournaments before and very familiar with the rules but I wasn't sure if there were any certian criteria or rules that we would have to stick to being that it would be associated with the Relay for Life. If anyone knows of any special rules or criteria could you please let me know or point me in the right direction.
each state has its own rules and regulations surrounding gaming such as a poker tournament so be sure to check with your staff partner...the most important things to keep in mind after that is any prizes must be just that, in other words no cash...get gift certificates donated for example...but definitely check with your staff partner for state guidelines
It is my understanding gambling is not permitted as fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. However, if you were to host a poker tournament and then donate the proceeds, that would be entirely up to you. You cannot advertise the tournament as a fundraiser for the Relay For Life. For more detailed information contact your local American Cancer Society office and speak with your staff partner.
