My wife has been battling inflammatory breast cancer for the past 12 years.  She had a mastectomy right after being diagnosed when she was 31.  After that she had a stem cell transplant.  The cancer came back 18 months later in some lymph nodes on the right side of her neck.  They took out 6 lymph nodes.  Again in eighteen months it returned in her left neck area, again in the lymph nodes.  About a year later it returned in her lymph nodes around her left shoulder blade.  The affected lymph nodes damaged the nerves in the breakal Plexus nerve center causing her left arm to be paralyzed.  We went for a while and it returned to the breast bone.  She had a ct scan and pet scan in October 2007 and it showed that all was fine.  This week January 11, 2008 she started throwing up and lost her appetite.  She then turned yellow even in her eyes, also her urine was the color of a dark cup of coffee.  I took her to the emergency room where they did a cat scan and the doctor told us that she had 4 spots on her liver.  She fought for 12 years to keep it out of her organs and now it has come back with a vengeance.  She is currently in the hospital and after a sonogram it was confirmed that 2 of the 4 tumors were 6.5 centimeters which is about the size of a baseball. The tumors have damaged the liver to the extent that her liver is now failing.  Her ammonia levels are at 90 and the Billie rubin count is at 26.  They are giving her morphine and Oxycontin for pain.  The doctors said she does not have much longer.  I am writing this to those who have received the dreaded word cancer so that they know if they fight they will have longer with family and friends.
