at our Relay, we cannot use candles (no fire allowed) and we also cannot use sand to weight the bags. we will be using glow sticks to light the luminaria.
any ideas on an EASY way to weight these bags? we cannot use tape to affix them to the track because that will leave residue. we will probably have 2000 luminaria, so using rocks or anything of that sort is way beyond our capacity to acquire, store, or discard.
Use baby food jars or ziploc bags filled with beans to weigh down the bags if you cannot use sand at all. The baby food jars or small votive candle holders can be collected from the teams for Spirit Points in addition to bags of beans. The battery operated votives can get expensive, especially with 2,000 luminaries unless you are able to find them at a really good price. I would make sure the budget will cover the cost or this could be something else to gain Spirit Points for the teams. Good luck
Last year we used battery powered candles and sandwich bags filled with sand---it made assembling the luminaries VERY easy and worked well. If you're allowed to use bags of sand, it's a great way to do it!
