This is my first year to be the Survivorship Chairperson and I was wanting some ideas on activities, decorations and recognition. Our Relay theme is Rock N Roll for a Cure. The survivor tent theme is Cancer had us Rockin' but now we're Rollin'.
We've always enjoyed having Rocking Chairs in the Survivor Tent. These would particularly appropriate for yours! People can rock their laps, rather than walk them. Something we did last year was to bring in nice patio furniture for the Survivor/VIP Tent, as well. It ended up looking a bit like a spa. We had a massage therapist come in, as well.
For all of our contests like the Crazy Hat Lap and Relay Idol, we had the Survivors be involved as judges. Sometime after dinner, but before Luminaria, we had a Survivors' Dessert Reception in their tent.
This past year, on the first Sunday of the month of June (which is before our Relay) we added in a Survivor Sunday Brunch. This allowed us to gather as many of our Survivors up ahead of time for a light brunch and a chance to kind of get to know each other and find out what would happen at the Relay (for those who had never been before). this also gave us a chance to take pictures of each of them to use in Luminaria and in the Hope Garden. We really found this to be successful, and we found that more of our Survivors stayed for a longer time during the day of Relay or came back for Luminaria than had in the past. We think it was because so many more now knew what was going to happen during the day than had in the past.
