Each of us has our Reason to Relay and I would like to invite you all to share your reasons with your fellow Relayers throughout Illinois. In sharing your story, volunteers and staff find inspiration, hope and reasons to keep fighting back against cancer!

I Relay in memory of my parents and grandparents and I Relay in honor of my family members who have beaten this horrible disease. But I also Relay for myself, because it was through Relay that I began to heal after losing Mom. It was Relay that showed me that people can survive and it is Relay that brings all of you into my life!!

What's my story....

My journey with the American Cancer Society and Relay For Life was all about having fun.  A co-worker of mine asked if I wanted to join her Relay team.  I didn't ask a lot of questions because she told me that we'd get to camp out on the high school track - something that no one else gets to do, we'd get to enjoy lots of great entertainment, we'd get to take turns walking around the track over the 24 hours, we'd get to have lots of fun working together raising money to fight cancer.  GET TO... How could I say no to so much fun?

One thing my friend didn't mention was that she was a cancer survivor.  YEAH... she left that part out.  Seeing her in the survivor lap was something I'll never forget.  I was hooked.

I look forward to the day we no longer get to participate in Relay because we've found a cure for everyone.  Until then, I will continue to celebrate our survivors, remember those we've lost to cancer and fight back against this disease that takes too much!

That's my story.  What's yours?
