If the image itself is too large, you can use something as simple as PC Paint (under Start / Programs / Accessories in Windows) to re-size it (Image / Stretch/skew).
If the file size is too large because the image is high resolution, you may need to use a product like MGI PhotoSuite; simply load the image, use Image / Resize and save it at no more than 72 DPI.
A great freeware tool for image manipulation is IrfanView (www.irfanview.net to download).
